Replying to HD Questions 60i vs 30p vs 24p

i'm pretty new to hd and i'm trying to decide which recording setting to go with.  my camera can do 1080 60i, 1080 30p and 1080 24p.  I would like to film progressive scan so should i go with the 1080 30 p or 24p.  My gut reaction is to go with the 24p because it's the cameras native format and my editing software doesn't seem to have any templates for the 30p.  Also how will the the 24 p compare to the 30p and 60 i for slow motion shots?
