Yay for vivitar 285HV

Just unpacked the 285HV today and my am I impressed.  Still waiting on the triggers for off camera but such a fun flash to mess around with.  Once I understood the dial and the meanings it worked out great!  And also to set the iso the same on the flash and the camera helped out a lot too haha.

Any other tips on using the 285 hv.  Do most of you use the auto settings or the manual?  I messed around with both and the auto settings seem to be pretty dead on.  I assume manual settings for different lighting that auto wont do?

The built in settings for whatever f/stop and ISO work pretty well, as long as your subject isn't super close or far away.

Nice..so if i assume right, the colors on the dial (side of flash) help determing what to set the flash at on the sensor.  So like set the iso and then figure out the distance and then look at what color the dial is compared to the fstop and that should give ya a general idear?

I only use my 285 in manual mode. So much less to worry about and I like to manipulate the lighting.
