New Canon 1D Mark V Release Tomorrow?!

Skipping the 4 and going straight to 5? Sounds sick! Maybe released tomorrow? 12fps, 1080p, 24/30/60, new auto focus, new design, 16mp and maybe 108,000 iso, full frame? Maybe only $5's.... not bad.

16 mp seems strange
compared to 5d mii 21 mp
and 7d 18 mp

they prob had to do that because the cards cant capture 12 fps at that big of a file

Pixel density. The less MP, they less noise. It makes perfect sense. Why should camera go up to 21MP, sure I use it for some things when make huge prints, but less MP makes the sensor perform better in low light with better noise reduction.

Yes, 12 pictures per second.

looks sick, although if i go full frame i'll go 5d no question, i got to shoot a 5dmk2 this weekend at a wedding with a 35mm L and it was ridiculous, the thing was so fun and just takes bomb photos

although my 40d with a 50mm 1.8 was a damn good rival, looking at the images in post that thing did a great job as well

This says it is a 1.3x, but I suppose nobody will know for sure until tomorrow. I can't see Canon making a 16mp full-frame, or a full frame that could do 12fps, though, so I am fairly confident that the speculation is correct.

Also, the IQ between a 5D mkII/35L and 40D/50 1.8 should be pretty significant. There's a reason people pay for good glass.

I dont think its full frame because if it was full frame the MP would be bigger... and the mark iii isnt full frame
so they would call it the 1d mark vs or something

like the other one that is full frame

Specification have now been confirmed here in Tokyo, the camera will be named the 1D Mark IV and the specs are as follows:

- 21.1 Megapixels
- Full Frame with 1.3 Crop Mode

- 12 FPS in 1.3 Crop Mode
- Dual Digic IV Processors
- Native ISO 25,600
- Boost Mode ISO upto 102,400
- 45 AF Points - 39 Cross
- 63 Zone Metering
- 1080p @ 24-60 fps
- 720p @ 120 fps
- S-RAW Video
- HDMI HD video output
- 3" Fold & Tilt LCD Screen
- Self Cleaning Sensor

The actual body ergonomics haven't changed a great deal, with the biggest difference being the new Fold & Tilt LCD and the appearance of large hot keys beside the screen, that look slightly like the ones on Phase One Digital Backs.

There will also be three accessories at launch:
1. VDSLR Mount System
2. XLR Pro Audio Module
3. 1TB Flash Recording Module

The XLR Pro Audio Module and 1TB Flash Recording Modules are made to connect into the VDSLR Mount System to convert the camera into a fully fledged Video device, changing the form factor into one that Filmmakers are more familiar with."

o yeah 5d killed it no question i was just impressed with the 40d, i thought the pics were gonna look like absolute shit

main thing was the incredible sharpness and lack of noise on the 5d at a higher iso than the 40d

The flagship point of this camera is the iso. Check out the link I posted. Vincent Laforet did that will no lights, only available lighting. Thats amazing. IMO i think dslrs will (soon) start to take over the market....

I think the 3s is comparable if not exactly the same iso but in full frame so if that's the flagship point, wouldn't the d3s be better? It was my understanding that the video was the major selling point of this camera. In that case, it beats the Nikon.

I'm not sure if I missed your point and I didn't say want I wanted to correctly. Correct the D3s and the MK4 have the same ISO. However in terms of video with the mk4 at iso 108,000 is amazing. The link I posted was shot with no extra lights, just ambient. So the "flagship" I was talking about was video + iso. In terms of video with the d3s, I believe it only have 720p at 24fps which as you said, canon beats nikon.

That's almost what I was getting at. When I think about both cameras I think of the Nikon as professional and this Canon of prosumer and that's only because they're marketing the video more than the photo. I would not buy either camera because of the video. It should not be a selling point because they're supposedly both professional photo cameras and the video is just an add on. I don't think any videographer would buy either of these cameras because of their video capabilities.
