The death of dancing on rails....

I haven't posted in the Ski Gabber in years, but I feel like this is a good comeback.

When is "dancing on rails" going to end?  I understand we all like switchups and 270's-450's on/out.  But I am honestly really sick of the 900 combinations that are done on 1 single rail at a single time.  I am a kid of the 90s, so maybe the new style isn't my style in general.  But I think rails look way doper when it is more fluid and not butterfyle style.  Rails should be killed, no skinny jeans onto them...

i have no problem with people "dancing" on urban rails. that takes ridiculous skill and balls. But 10000 switchups on flatboxes is fucking annoying.

agreed, kind of.

I love to watch everyone rail, heck i even did a little myself and was ok, but I would rather launch a big corked 5 than hit the rails.  Not as many people jump these days, it's all about the rails. 

I do think it is super impressive all the spinning and buttering and switching, but when I did it I just hit it big and fast.  Kind of like a big 180, not super technical but it gets respect, and looks sweet.

I agree.. However its not much different than how its always been.. its just moved from spinning to win on slopestyle to spinning to on boxes and flat rails. The kids who do it (pros too if you will) are more focused on landing the trick as opposed to perfecting and styleizing the trick.

Will Wesson and Andy Parry aren't the best skiiers out there, what makes them unique is their style and innovation. Pretzel boy does stepped up the rail game.. but also introduced his own unique style to it which carries over to his big air and slopestyle game.

I'd much rather have fluid gorrila steeze with no spins (is that an oxymoron?) than getting dizzy on every rail.

Last time I checked, "dancing" from rail to rail on a 4 kink that most kid on NS wouldn't even consider hitting is ridiculous. Calling out LJ for "dancing" on urban rails is absurd.

I personally really like innovation in the sport. I don't think it should be all steeze on rails,and if all people wanted to do was 270s on switch up 450s off like u said, the sport would be going nowhere, its thanks to people like andy parry and will wesson that the sport is progressing like it is!

shit will get better... you just have to give it time... there has been some names mention that will help the movement away from what you call "dancing" (ie- drexler, hill, parry, wesson)... one that has not been mention yet is the polar bear...

haha I hate when people talk about skiing like that.

we're way too conserned about makingthins bigger and better. Slow down bring back the steeze in skiing is all this dude is trying to say.

I also agree with what the other kid said to me about what else is there to do on pre-season rails other than dance?  Very very true.  But, its just funny to watch these hyped up preseason edits... I get it, everyone is way pumped for the season tor really get rollin...

I think you guys are forgetting about the competition in the sport.  Pros need to keep "dancing on rails", because it is a higher difficulty.

ian compton spins the fuck out of rails with tons of switch ups but he has a really unique style that is fun to watch. the difference between him and all the kids who just "dance" is that he always looks like he's in control.

in the air, the guy that does a steezy 900 gets more credit than the guy who gets a not as pretty 1260. why isnt it like that on rails too? 1 steezy swup looks alot better than 3 crappy ones...

I see the point, but I think it all comes around.  I'm still lucky if I can stay on a metal rail without gooning myself.  I see the multiple switch-ups that are being done now and I'd give my left nut to be able to do them. Yeah the guys that are good make them look so steezy.  The guys that are learning; not so much.  That is the definition of progression.  When it gets to the point where most people don't like it anymore, it will go away for awhile, and then in 10 years it will be retro.

I know how ya feel, I still like to see some dancing though, just not everytime. Mix in some smooth hits with the dancing. Same as I wouldnt want to see 10's and 12's every hit. Nothing like a super slow huge smooth 1, 3 or 5.

Exactly... don't get me wrong. I love the dudes who kill it with speed/style while dancing.  But not on every single rail everytime.  I understand this is the progression of our sport and that it is badass and its what skiing needs in general, and that it can't be stopped.  Can't stop the youth.

A nice lipslide to tail press -->270 out?  New trick maybe?
