Center Mount help

My dad never let me get my skis center mounted because he thought I wouldn't be able to still ski outside of the park as well. Can give me the facts about what center mounting does and what it gives the skis and/or takes away from the skis. I really want to center mount this year and I need to be able to convince my dad to let me do so.

pros: makes skis feel shorter, faster turns, better control, better butters!

Cons: not good for big moutain, not good for bumps, i found you go slower

if the skis are symmetrical or have a bi-directional sidecut then it's not going to hurt anything, but if you center mount a directional sidecut twin your turns are more of a slide than a carve if you're outside the park. however, if you're a good skier it shouldn't matter and you'll still be able to rip.

definitely a symmetrical ski-either the walls, ledges, or doubtfully bridges (reason being they are pretty expensive)

if you buy a symmetrical ski and dont center mount it, you are defeating the whole purpose of buying a symmetrical ski in the first place.

this is all truth, i say pick out a symmetrical ski  when you and your dad go back to the shop to fill out the form, don't write anything about where to mount it except on the recommended line, your dad thinks you have "grown up" and you really have center mounted skis he's none the wiser

I've been riding center-mounted assymetrical skis for the past 6 years. Why? just something I got used to and havent found a pair of symmetrical skis that I like. Its really question of preference as well.

Yea I'm not mounting the ski where its designed for, but I dont really care. You get used to riding centered asym skis, and I can ride everything from par (small to largest)k, to pow, to groomers, and even gates. (not a racer, just for shits n giggle). You just have to handle them differently and they will perform llike a regular mounted ski. Obviously you gotta ride a bit more backseat in pow, but it also depends on the width of the ski.

holy balls dont mount a symmetrical ski anywhere other than dead center man, it messes up where your boots are on the sidecut

BUT yea, if you find a pair of symmetrical skis you like, I'd say go with em.

technically, your boots can't be mounted where they should be if you mount dead center on a symmetrical ski. the ball of your foot is supposed to be in the center of the sidecut for the best performance, and when you mount symmetrical skis in the center that part of your foot is actually ahead of the center of the sidecut.

okay okay fine if you wanna get technical. the point is, you shouldn't mount symmetrical skis as if they were carving skis

i dunno i was skiing center once and i just couldnt get the bumps nice, it might have been cause i was use to traditional but i just couldnt pound threw them. I cant really explain it.
