Marker 2008/2009 side zip pants

alright so my mom just bought me these marker 08-09 side zip pants and i have a few questions

A: What the fuck does the side zipper even do? why would i want to take of my pants sideways?

B: Is 5,000mm going to be enough waterproofing for new england skiing?

C: Anyone else own or hear anything about these pants?

knowing marker, the zippers will become unzipped for no apparent reason and leave you pantsless, therefore failing at providing their primary function; keeping you warm and dry. this will happen until they permanently break, at which point you will swear to yourself never to by a marker product again. unless of course they are marker dukes or jesters.

Side zippers are commonly used on race pants; racers get to the top of the hill with their jacket and pants on.  It's race time.  They need to take their jacket and pants off to race in their suit.  Instead of taking off their boots to take off their pants, the pants have a side zipper to make it so much easier and quicker and less of a hassle.  Other than than, they are more or less useless.  Unless you gotta take a shit real quick in the woods then it may come in handy.
