Threads designed only to elicit a response, to increase Karma

I've noticed there are a lot of threads now with obvious-as-shit outcomes, such as this one:

The response on a SKIING website is evidently going to be that SKIING is 'way cooler'. It's like making a thread about what tastes better: cheescake or horse shit.

It's fucking annoying: the OP has obviously only posted the thread to get himself known, and in the hope that this will lead people to increase their Karma.

Threads like these contain no useful discussion or content, nor do they contribute in any way to the skiing community.

Also, I realise that it sort of relates to point. 3 on Rowen's list of things that will earn a temporary ban, but it pisses me off enough to warrant a thread of its own.
