just got back and i thought it was awesome. really, everything i hoped it would be. i was listening to an interview with dave eggers on the radio today and he was talking about how when they were making it, they really wanted to make sure that they weren't making it FOR kids, but rather about BEING a kid. and when you're a kid, life sucks sometimes and life is awesome sometimes. i really thought they captured that spectrum well, not to mention i thought whoever played max's character did a great job. i'd recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I was more excited for this to come out than most ski videos... well ok how about almost as excited.  I knew going into the theater it was going to be a film and it would probably have a dark tone to it.  After watching it, the movie was darker than i thought it would be.  I thought it was extremely well done the monsters and special effects were unreal, and the cast was phenomenal. I just dont know if i will buy it or ever see it again.  It's worth seeing though.

it wasnt anything like what i had expected. it was really deep and meaningful, but so much fucked up wierd shit was going on that it was kinda hard to concentrate

i totally get it. most of it for me was that we all say/do things we don't mean when we were angry as little kids (or wild things) like how he messed up his sisters room. after you do it you feel even worse than before. it made me feel bad for carol and made me think of how i had done that stuff before like make stupid decisions to get a point across then realize you are doing the complete wrong thing (when carol is crying while max is leaving) all in all great movie made me laugh and almost cry. i will probably end up seeing it once more in theatres

pay attention to who directed it.  then pay attention to what hes done.  really pay attention to that.

now get off your 'so over it' soapbox and just watch it because its going to be good.  and give spike some credit.

at the very least tip your hat to his VERY significant contribution to the acting world.  do your research, which i sincerely hope does have to be much, and youll have your answer as to whom.

And your argument for the other dude being a douche just went out the window.

He is saying he WANTS to see it and is looking forward to it.  He is just annoyed that the crowd he will have to see their will be filled with those annoying hipster idiot kids that will be there because even though they may have read the book as a kid won't be there because of the connection to the book but because they think it is the "cool" thing to do.

Hipsters, to me means...  people that are trying to be hippies, or people that are doing what they think is the "cool" thing to do aka smoking pot, protesting, going to see a movie that they normally would not see.  Like, I know a guy that went to this movie JUST to get in a girl's pants.  It is people like that that the original person you quoted was referencing.

So, in conclusion, get off YOUR soapbox and realize this guy is excited about the movie.

Oh yeah, watching a movie to "get in a girl's pants" is a TOTAL hipster thing to do. You really need to learn what the general stereotype of a hipster is.

On another note, I'm really hoping this movie is nothing like "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs." That book was so ridiculous in a good way, but the movie was crap.

how bout watch a movie because you want to watch it, because you read the book as a kid, because youre about the director, regardless of the clientele it may or may not attract?  just a thought, albeit to you, seemingly a foreign one.

i understand your argument, but fuck em dweebs, see it cos you should see it.  i got both feet on the ground with no soapbox in sight.

I, on the other hand as I said on the first page, won't be seeing this, cause I never read the book as a child, and quite frankly, Spike Joenz has talent as a director but generally I am not a fan of his movies.

this movie is a beautiful piece of art.

when the group that was in the movie before us came out this woman walked past me and said "that movie was stupid - it wasn't about anything" - I feel badly for that woman she obviously lacks intellegence and imagination.

very very very good movie. if you're really considering not going to see this movie because "zomgz teh hipsters will ruin it for me!!! i cannot believe they're going to go see this movie they probably didn't even read the book holy shit omg!" please get a life.

I honestly thought it was spot on with the book.
An interesting thing to think about for anyone who actualy loved it as a kid and then saw it now, you were at a much different stage in your life. The story itself is actually kind of depressing. I think spike jonze caputured exactly what maurice sendak was going for in writing this. I believe that the reason Max travels to his world of wild things, to find such sadness and anger is a metaphor on the stage from being a child, into a young adult. I know max is only 11, so he might be a tad young for this to happen, but it does happen to everyone. You start to leave this childhood fantasy world little by little as you get older, until it's almost completly gone. The confusion in this stage causes much sadness and anger. I thought the metaphor was portrayed greatly.

For all that say they hated it because it was sad, then you obviously never truly loved that story.
This is the kind of movie that can only be made once, and Spike Jonzes did it wonderfully.
I will never forget the book or movie.

The boy that played max, (max records) was beyond perfect for the role.
I almost cried when his older sister's friends crushed his fort.

That is my thought on the movie.

i saw it this friday at the shittiest movie theater ever, the speakers were broken for the first quarter of the movie so i was fucking annoyed for the whole beginning with max at home.

overall the movie was great, i didn't even notice how long it was, but i must say i was extremely shocked when carol ripped douglas's arm off.

near the end when max is leaving the island i got that feeling in my throat when you feel like crying, but don't and all i was thinking was "am i seriously on the verge f tears ver this movie???", i was, it was that good. i was very close to crying

i think i may have found a book i can actually read again.... the script writer published a novel about the movie and what max's thoughts are throughout his adventure. for sure checking it out

I went into that movie not really knowing what to expect.  I dont remember the book as a kid and didnt really know what the story line was about other than a spike jonze interview in vice said each character represented an emotion.

The movie fucked with my head a lot.  It was more of a trip than anything.  some parts scared the shit outta me, others made me cry, others made me really uncomfortable.  I saw it stoned and hadnt been in a month and it really effected how I viewed the movie.  I think that a lot of people will think its a really dumb movie just because they arent open to interpretation.  If you view each monster as an emotion and see them as parts of yourself then I think you will understand what spike jnze was going for in this film.  Its a very visually pleasing film which i expected from spike and the monsters look so damn real I forgot sometimes that the faces were visual effects. 

overall an 8/10 just becasue it was a little elongated at points and drawn out.  and the soundtrack was fucking rad.  anyone thinking of seeing it on mush better be ready for one hell of a mind fuck id say.

im gonna go apart from the argument between you and panda, and point out that i am excited to see it, just im seeing it for me and the great childhood memories i have of this story. which contrasts a great deal of people who are seeing it cause its the "cool" thing to do, instead of they're own desire to see a movie that interests them. i never said anything discrediting the film itself, just annoyance with the apparent trendiness it holds with certain social groups.

saw it last weekend and was not that impressed... never read the book...

it was visually entertaining... i appreciate the work that went into it and the costumes were cool... but the story line was a bit dull. i realize it was a kids book with like one line per page... but nonetheless, shit was dull...

graff writer COAX, MSK AWR. did all the graphic design for the characters(dope), and actually played as the little goat thing.

I found the book in my basement when I was looking for my ski boots, and I read it again. It took me 2 minutes. Really, the only similarities are the characters (obviously) and the boat he gets to the island (there are probably more, whatever). In the book he doesn't say he has magic powers to blow people up and he doesn't say he's a king, the wild things make him the king. It's a kids book so it is minimal with words and such.

So I kinda think some of the things in the movie should have been different.
