i was thinking about getting the canon hv30 and i was wondering if you have an option of what you want to film on a sd card or a mini dv because i have never filmed with mini dvs and there pretty exspensive for hd ones
You don't have to no, but there's a higher risk of having drop-out, and because HDV is compressed (and really really sucks in general) one drop out really means 15dropped frames which is about a half a second...
Still there's no guarantee that a HDV tape wont drop out, but it will drop out less than using regular DV tape.
I have had my hv30 for over a year now and iv'e put about 20 normal Dv tapes through it and iv'e always captured on it. I have never had one drop out so, I will tell you HD tapes are a big scam.
Here is a thread on the popular hv series forum and everyone will tell you there is no difference
