Yeah, watch the Chris Tutin stuff, its really sad. He's definately all there but it seems like mentally he's stuck behind this injury. That must be incredibly frustrating.

Ima gonna bump because this is informative and actually important. Helmets are for the educated, education makes us superior and richer (disclaimer, you're helmet won't make you richer unless you have you're sponsors sticker on it, besides, can't have a sticker on a hat.). Do not defy the logic there

i always wear my helmet while skiing, and our school is requiring mouthguards for soccer this year, which seems stupid, but really helps protect against concussions

"More than 100,000 Canadians are brain injured each year".  The rest were just born idiots.  Couldn't resist. Just kidding, ftw.  Canucks rule.

It def sucks to see that happen to people.  Don't forget about neck injuries too.

helmets are a must guys. this is a great post, shit, it should really be on the front page. theres really no reason not to wear one. just think about this: if something does happen, would you really want your parents to have to take care of you, wipe your ass, feed you, and all that for the rest of your life? no, and they dont either.

i dont have time to watch the whole movie right now, but i def. will here later. good find.

I used to always think helmets were lame for skiing, but now a days I almost always wear one. Granted, it is just a skate helmet with half the foam ripped out, and a hat underneath, but it definitely still helps me. I have had a few hits with it. I actually only bought a helmet so I could ride in the high level park at Whistler, but ended up hitting my head pretty hard a couple times that day, but was fine because of the helmet. Ever since then I almost always wear it

I'll bump this again, because it gives the chance for more to see this. It really is clear that helmets are necessary for these sorts of sports. "I'd take a broken arm any day, but a bad brain injury, that won't ever heal."

Guys, just let me know when you're tired of seeing this thread and I'll let it die, until then, this thing should be kept alive to inform those who don't already know or who need a reminder.

Why is this not a sticky? Not wearing a helmet is just asking for it, and more kids on this site need to be exposed to the reality that your brain and your body are not expendable.

agreed. As a psychology major at CU I am studying the way the brain operates in close detail, and let me tell you guys that it is a very, very delicate balance that keeps a brain healthy and operating correctly. If you think that you can get away with smacking your noggin over and over again, even off of "soft" snow, then you are exercising extremely poor judgement. Memory, vision, motor capacity, comprehension, you name it. All the things that make your life what it is are contained in that head of yours, and to gamble around with that in the name of looking cool or whatever, is not only saddening to me, its devastating to the people that have put the time and money and love into raising you. Wise up guys, you only get one brain.

Question about helmets Do you sacrifice much protection if you use a skate helmet with the padding taken out and a hat underneath? Does the padding actually for anything other than comfort?
Also, watch the video of the skateboarder about two vids down, the one with the road step down thing. The kids friends are so dumb.

I suffered from a pretty bad concussion off a booter 2 years ago.  I landed on my head without a helmet, and couldn't remember anything that happened that whole day.  Probably some of the scariest shit i've experienced. 

Ever since then i've worn a helmet.

i got a traumatic brian injury in march its an awful experience, i'm pretty much fully recoverd i got held back this year to catch up on things, im gonna be skiing this year just not doing any crazy shit

these videos are sad i feel real bad for these people.
