Making a monoski

i got an oldschool directional snowboard and i was thinking about making it into a monoski. anyone have any advice?

yeah. im definately goin to take it easy on the thing once i get it made.  no ski shop ive found will mount bindings cuz of liability issues.  anyone have a link to paper templates?

regarding templates, you can just mark a piece of paper through the holes in the bindings.

thats what i do when i mount up my urbans. i take my good skis to the shop though for fear of fucking it up.

great idea (or a horrible one) but you should def still do it. id imagine youd wanna get those edges sharp as shit too.

oh and for the bindings, eyeball your toe piece location, meaure out a vertical and horizontal centerline, and mark through the holes. drill, and install it. through you boot in one of um and locate your heel. make a mark where it ends, and then line them up. just make sure youve got enough travel to set the forward pressure.

my advice would be to
1) draw a centerline down the snowboard by drawing 45 degree diagonals on both ends and drawing a line through the center where they intersect
2) do the same thing again on either side of the center line, so you end up with a line on either side of the center line, as if you divided the ski in quarters.

if it's a normal sized snowboard that should set you up decently and make it easier to mount with a plexiglass template

it'll take a bunch of tools and some decent shop skill but it'll be a fun experience and by the end you might be able to freehand some skis

just had an idea for finding center, or at least getting a good straight line. toss two screws in the inserts, and lay a straight edge between um.

yeah that could work, use calipers to find center between the inserts and then use a meter stick to find the center

You should make one of those things where its a snowboard but they have ski boots on and the bindings are at like a 45 degree angle, those things look like so much fun.  Monoskis seem sort of lame.

Its a good idea. Last season we built a monoski out of a directional burton snowboard and some old bindings. Youll probably have to mount it yourself the shops around Idaho wouldnt do it because they said it was a liabilty thing. make sure to drill a hole in the back of one of the bindings and tie a leash to your leg. When those things get going there impossible to catch. They are pretty easy to ride we could hit the medium size jumps and do some grabs in are park at Targhee, Good Luck!
