EPOXY,,,, what type?

So for any of your with Scratchs you know how cut up they can get. Well I put a nice gash in them today, I Don't even know how. but I'd like to epoxy it because i can't really tell if water would be able to get to the core or not.

Now are their different types of epoxy? if so what kind should I get to seal the gash on the top of my ski... thanks!

just use ptex, its really easy, all you really need is a ptex stick, lighter, and something to use as a scraper

I thought P-tex was for bases? Can it be used on the top too?

try some 2-ton epoxy, you can find it at just all all hardwares for about $4 or less...follow the instructs on the package and apply it to the gash, than you can file down the extra after it drys...hope that helps

Its pretty simple, just get wax paper and a tooth pick and start mixing it up well or it will never dry. If mixed well it should be harden in 5 minutes wait a few hours then take some fine grit sand paper to it.

no I've never had any difficulties with it, works great...I put some on a few gashes on my rail skis, at the beginning of the season, and its holding up fine...easy, fast and durable

use a slow set epoxy for better strength and higher durability. Elementis Epoweld is the best, www.vobaker.com

this is sorta off topic, my old enemys de-lammed, and they epoxied them, the epoxy tore out within a week or two, then i used super glue, and it stayed for 4 weeks easy, if that helps anyone out there

yea, but i'm looking for something to fill a gash in my scratchs with, because i'm afraid water might be able to seep down into the core. it's hard to tell how deep this gash/cut is.

I use the 15 minute crap from wal-mart. It works fine. You essentially get a 2 sided plunger with resin in one side and hardner in the other. Make sure to push the plunger and get each side flowing equally before you start mixing. That way it will set properly. Then, just sort of toothpick it into the gash. I hardly even bother sanding. The toothpick gives really good control and you should be able to keep it perfect. Epoxy is my friend.

the longer the set time of the epoxy the better it will hold, and if you dont really care too much about appearance dont sand it down. leave a bit outside of the scratcheshelps seal around edges of it too

Make sure that your skis are completly dry inside, because your skis will rot and eventually break if any water is stuck inside. Just use the 2 type epoxy: one part reson other hardener. If u r worried about cosmetics, then u can color under the epoxy to match the top sheet color. that is at least what we do in the shop.

yesterday i epoxyed them, they today the epoxy is real strong. so we'll see how they hold up after a day of abuse. thanks guys
