Enough double corks

Anyone else getting bored with the recent pre-season big air events? I know that this is a difficult technical trick and I respect it, but it seems like every single competitor has the same trick. They will throw a double cork 10 or 12 with a mute or a tail grab. I am getting tired of this and im sure that other people are noticing how boring the freestlye ch video got with all of the matching tricks.


anyone else feel this way or am I just crazy?

and thats why your not a judge. you cant judge on personal preferance

i mean i getting tired of dub corks too. but a dub 10 /12 is way more harder and it looks sick too.

and i like sammy carlson's style it looks hella gorilla"ed: out. like in the frestyle.ch he land and one arm is forward and one is behind him and is hella bent down

This always happens with skiing. You have two opposing factions within the ski industry. right now, everyone and their mother seems to be learning double cork 10s and 12s. Everyone's learning them because they win comps... which makes sense. When this happens, two groups emerge. Those who can do them or similar tricks (i.e. doubles) get excited about them and keep doing them. Those that can't do them just let their hate flow, deciding that they won't do them or don't like them because they are way too cool for them, but it's really because they don't have the ability. I mean, there is the case where someone who can and has done a double cork will hate on it anyway (which is valid because I believe if you can do a trick, you can hate on it IMO) Besides, if everyone goes out and learns the hardest, most technical trick that anyone is doing, by next fall there will be a new, harder trick that everyone goes out and learns, which continues the cycle of progression within skiing. When that trick arrives, there'll definitely be kids on newschoolers that'll be there to hate on that too, but I'm fine with that.

I loved dub corks a few months ago (like everyone else). But after seeing so many in that last vid they're getting boring.

I'm a crap park skier. My best trick is a 3.

I don't hate on dub corks because I can't do them, I hate on them because they're being done so often. I can't do fuck all tricks but that doesn't mean that I can't have an opinion on what tricks I like seeing.

So yeah, your theory is wrong.

yeah even if your getting sick of double corks what do you want see? people go back to doing sw 10's and that shit? thats not progession and isnt that what everyone wants to see, skiing progress more?

They're already here. In fact, it seems like most of the guys repping the dub corks, started with sw dubs ala Wallisch.

Yeah, I honestly don't get the whole double flip mania,
but if you ask me it will ultimately make skiing more interesting, since the people who don't
like double flips and huge spins will make more creative and inventive styles; like snowboarding.

If you ask me though, someone needs to talk to the people who judge big air comps, it's ridiculous to make everyone do the same trick if they want to win. I think just about everyone did a double 10 in freestyle.ch which is usually an awesome comp to watch, but not this year. They didn't even want people doing grabs other than mutes. That isn't progress.

comp skiing is probably the most uncreative part of our sport, it seems when someone does a new trick, everyones got to do it, a dub cork 12 mute is a very cool trick, probably fucking hard, but when everyone whos trying to win is doing it,and when you know that if you wanna podium at a big comp this year, big air or slope, youll have to execute a double cork 1260 mute grab, it makes the trick suck and it gets old real fast. Why dont they have this problem in snowboarding?

Do i hear an echo from 2006? In a big air comp its all about the big tricks, thats all there is too it, same will all comps for the most part, thats how it is and your going to have to deal with it. Not my cup of tea either but its all about impressing the judges, and at X or other big events with media exposure, the crowd. thats how they make their money. If your not a dub fan then your hopes and dreams of being a comp skier have dissapeared. This argument has been going on forever and will never change.

remember slope/bigair at X in 06(year it snowed so hard slope was reduced to big air)...everybody did a sw 10 of some sort, that was the Dub of that year, get used to it...except for whoever did the sw dub backie that was sick and should be done again.

jon;s double corks with the Cannon Ball are sooo EPIC!

i reckon he should be winning!

also henricks Double flare .. with the Blunt ( double flair he would land forward but this is the best description of the trick i can think of)

at Zurich was EPic too... do you guys have any idea how hard that rotation would be to land...

actually.. Stefan thomas was the 1st one to do a double cork 3...

and it was over the Hip of love in utah..

in one of Level 1's old movies.. its in one of there  trailers cant remember which one. but stefan showed me it in whistler ages ago

It must be mixed in somewhere with the same prediction everyone else made.  PRetty obvious this was coming.

But ya it's getting ridiculous.  They all look the same to like there seems to be a lack of style variation in them they all have the same mutegrab or tail grab tweaked the same way and everything.  like I understand tweaking and poking grabs in tricks like this throw off the rotation and whatnot... Maybee it's time to stop constantly throwing this trick.

But here's my question

switch 10 -> Kangaroo -> Double cork -> ???

you're talking about double cork 7 or 9. You can not go off axis (cork wise) twice in a 360 rotation. it might be possible, but it hasn't been done yet.

I consider myself a simplistic, almost minimalist type of person. I prefer freeriding to freestyle

I really don't follow pro skiing at all.

I'd much rather be skiing than watch skiing.

I think glades and back country are the closest we can get to the heart of skiing. Remember that skis were tools long before they were toys.

I think the question that should be asked is, how do we create a judging system that is giving good marks for all the things like style, creativity, skill and difficulty. I think the guys in Berlin and FreestyleCH did a good job. The judging was on 2 out of 3 jumps, a style jump and a technical jump. Like Andreas in Berlin with a screaming seaman 540 with a double grab – there is something you don’t se every day. It was fun to se all the different things they tried to do to make good style points. Then on the tech. jump you can do as many spin/flips as you want. It looked like Jacob tried to do dub cork 14 – or we will se people like HH go for 16 or so spins…
