From Tramp to Snow

Alright, so I know there are a shit ton of people out there who have never had the opportunity or time to use a water ramp or whatever, and I know there's a shit ton of people who took tricks straight from tramps to snow.

So, my question for you is:

How would you say are the most important things to know when taking tricks from tramp to snow?

What should you be doing on the tramp to ensure it will transition easily to snow (ie setting w/i arms to avoid travel)?

make sure you are 100% comfy with the trick b4 you throw it on snow and go into it relaxed. all the tramp does is teach you the motion of the trick. and be prepared to have it not feel the same, this is because of the swing weight of your skis. And the most important thing is that no matter what commit 100% to your trick and never spaz out in the middle of the trick because this will ensure you die. If you commit all the way you almost def wont get hurt you will at least land close to on your feet. Hope this helped

be sure you have your trick on tramp at varying heights, so you can spin it fast or slow. then find a good jump, not gigantic, and set it the same as on the tramp and tuck and commit.

that seems like good advice. a-so, this is obvious, but hit the jump several times first and mentally gauge the time you have in the air to get around. that will help you figure out how hard to set the rotation initially, as compared to your tramp practice.

For me , snow always seems easier, but for most tricks you have to lean back  more on tramp then snow. Like with rodeos and corks. Rodeo is probably the hardest trick for me on tramp, but i can do it on snow. You have to understand the momentum of the trick alot more on tramp.

it is also very different because on a tramp you are bouncing straight up and down and on a jump you are traveling more horizontally so keep that in mind as well

Yeah one thing I've learned is that its good to be able to do tricks both into a pit or on a double mini or just bouncing without travel on a tramp. Teaches you patience and control.

Also, in response to my own question, its really good to make sure that you spot your landing. At some point in your trick you have to physically look at your landing and be able to say "oh, there it is." This will allow you to adjust your rotatin/flip speed so you can land on your feet.

on tramp you are going flat surface to flat surface, which is a lot different that going leaning back off the lip to leaning foward on the landing, so you gotta figure that out, which is kind of weird at first. Ski jumps are a lot bigger than the bounce of most tramps, so you might want to start on a smaller jump and just huck the shit out of it so you dont die and so its similar airtime.

Wow, I laughed a lot when he fell and grabbed his shin. It's funny cuz he's all by himself and writhing in pain with the cam still rolling.

But really just try it on skis on a jump you feel comfortable with. Odds are the instincts you have developed on the tramp will bring you around, or at least something close to it. Then just work from there. You might not land it, but the tramp instincts will keep you from totally fucking it up and landing on your head.

i think the two hardest parts about taking it from tramp to snow would be that fact that you dont have skis on and that you are not taking off from the lip of something.  when you hit a jump your weight and body are going to be farther back then off the tramp so i just takes getting use to i guess

Make sure your 100% compfortable with it on the tramp. The biggest thing is your rotation. Make sure its the same everytime cuz if your doing a flip then thats something u don't want to f up! Also get super compfortable with the jump b4 u try your new trick.

I bought some old pocket rockets a few seasons ago that I used for rock skis. I filed down the edges to make sure they wouldn't cut the tramp. I'm a little scared to throw anything more then a lincoln loop or a pathetic misty 5 (which I always seem to bouce right back to my butt) but it seems to be a good way to pass the time while I wait for the snow to start falling in my neck of the woods. Just weighting your feet doesn't give you the same feel as wearing ski boots.

Remember you're alway going to have to pull it faster and harder iwth the added weight of you skis and clothes.

i think the jumping on a tramp and your pop are a little different as well as your forward momentum are both things to keep in consideration. make sure you pop. popping is very important.

this, and because of that pop you have to remeber that on snow ure going to have to throw everything with a bit more of a flip than you would on the tramps, like i was doing rodeos on tramps good n then on snow i wasnt flippin enough n was doing like a bio 5. focus more on the flip and less spin

Just go for it. Every trick i have learned has been on snow. If you think you can do it in your head and dont doubt you will do it.

I usually do it this way
- Be super comfy doing it on a tramp, and also knowing the tricks close to it is helpful.
- Then take it to a decent sized jump with a powder landing, something your not gonna hurt yourself on if you fuck up.
- Give it a shot, if it feels like it did when you did it on the trampoline you should come very close to landing it and it will feel very comfortable. If it doesn't feel like it did on the tramp your probably throwing it wrong and it may be really tough to spot your landing or put it to your feet.
- After you get the rotation take it to the park.

One big thing for some tricks is making sure your moving the right direction on the trampoline.
If you're working on corks, make sure you're moving forward at least a little like you would off of a jump and then setting back.

I'm prolly just a pussy, but I was throwin d-spins on my tramp a couple years ago, and I landed on my neck hardcore. It was messsssed up for like 6 months. So I don't throw a ton of stuff on the tramp anymore, I just go to the foam pit. Seems to work alright for most stuff.
