I was out at whistler for a week and jumped this cliff and fucked up me knee. I just found out that I tore my ACL and I have to get surgery over spring break. The doctor said I'll will be out of skiing for at least 6 months and I have to go to phsical therapy and all that. Im just wondering if anyone has had to go through all this and how it will affect my skiing in the future. Does anyone have any tips?
Thanks.

I just had my acl done about a month ago. I cant tell you what to expect long term, but if you have any questions about the surgery, go ahead and message me.

hey man, I have had two friends with torn acls, and I just messed up mcl. Expect it is to be weak man. The best advice I can give is make like McGahey and rehab your butt off. My best friend used to be a phenomenal athlete, but he was lazy with the rehab therapy and his knee is messed for life. Put all you got into rehab and do whatever they say. Best of luck bro
'can you read what that says?'
'donna simma?'
'yes, that's right. now how would that appear in a phone book?'

^^ I don't know if you will be mountain biking man. I know that is tough to say, but you have to remember that the main ligament that holds your knee together just ripped in half. I merely sprained my MCL four weeks ago, and the doc still said I shouldn't ski for another 3 weeks or I will tear it. Just think rehab and next season. I know that is tough, but your knee is something that affects you the rest of your life. save it

Did mine a month ago. Find a hot female physio, because you'll be seeing them quite a bit. Follow their instructions to the letter.

i got my knee repaired in october. the doctor says i cant ski yet. i went to physical therapy 4x a week and now i go to the gym 4x a week. my legs are bigger and stronger than they have ever been before. im gonna give it another month before i head to the hills. i feel for you, it sucks a fat one. oh ya, make sure you get a cadaver tendon, they heal up a lot faster. you will be able to walk after 3-4 weeks instead of months.

Done both my ACL and MCL. Been in physio for years, building it back up. Knees are still weak but i'm working hard at it.
Good luck bro, hope it all works out for you. Take it easy.

been there, f*ked that up. it's been two years since i tore my ACL, and i still haven't had it repaired. no therapy, just easy bike riding. all that i do is wear my special knee brace. it's not one of the neoprene wal mart ones, it's an orthotic knee brace. i'm still skiing, and i was airing 25+ feet today, so i'm ok. i've gotta rebuild it sometime, i guess, but my knee brace works really well, and this is season 2 skiing with just the brace and no ACL.
but if you just tore it, your season is done. don't even think about heading back out this season. it's not worth screwing something else up. do the PT, follow the doctors orders, and take it easy next season until you figure out where your knee is setting your limits. for example, i know that i just physically cannot run a mogul field anymore. i found out by taking it VERY easy through a few. same with jumping, but i can actually do that. airing off of rollers was my reintroduction into hangtime. like i said, now i'm going bigger than most people i know. know your limits, and don't push them.

Steadman-Hawkins is fucking EXPENSIVE. However, they are pioneering meniscus replacements, which are pretty much impossible and super-experimental right now. If you're super rich, give them a call.
