Why aren't toupees removed during the national anthem?

I mean, they are a form of head wear, so it should be removed technically.  I mean, a toque is removed even if it is really cold out, and this head wear is serving a good purpose as well.  If the act of removing head wear is respectful and expected of you during the national anthem, why shouldn't toupee's be removed as well?

I bet the founding fathers didn't take off those silly wigs when they said it, so from the beginning America has had a long tradition of taking off hats but not fake hair when standing for the national anthem.

This may be someting a little different but I am pretty sure that military personnel don't take off their softcover (hat) if they are in their dress uniforms during the singing of the National Anthem.  Of course, they do hold a salute though.

no i've just always wondered why wearing a hat is disrespectful in buildings or during a national anthem, then thought, if head wear is disrespectful why isn't a toupee since it is still a form of hat.
