Lets make this a quickie. but, i come home from school today and my entire house smells like shit. i walk to the back yard, theres a septic truck and a shit volcano only yards away from my trampoline. the tank exploded FUCK. basically my family of 6 is boned and its gonna cost 40 grand to replace and im going to college in a year. FUCK

we dont think we can replace it until spring. FUCK

so i need some easy ways for my family to cut back on water, electricity or in any other way possible.
other than 30 second showers and the fact the we flush the toilet once a day.....

This kind of thing should be covered under homeowner's insurance, so maybe just pull together $500-1000 for your deductible?

If you have a heating/air conditioning system don't use it.  Go out and find one of those indoor Kerosene heaters to use because even though fuel of any kind isn't cheap it will be better than paying for a shit ton of electricity for heat.

what does a "shit volcanoe" look like?

You could always just stop living with electricity and go out into the wild (of course near a ski resort) and build a nice little cabin and be self sufficient and let your neighbors deal with the horrible smell coming from your old backyard.

same thing happened to me it was 28 grand and it sucks when your parents are trying to pay bills and that kinda thing comes out of nowhere and fucks them in the ass. its hard to deal with. good luck with your shit

this has happened to my family at least three times...at $30,000 a pop. "if its yellow, let it mellow; if its brown, flush it down" was basically my childhood motto. we even had timers that we had to keep by our shower to monitor our time in there. you'll get used to the change..its not as bad as it sounds. good luck.

there is no easy way to do it sadly. turns out the drainage basin (or something) around it is saturated and they pumped 1800 gallons out of our 1500 gallon tank.

Can you even use your shower or toilet with the septic in that condition? You can save water by taking a bath or plugging the tub when you shower and leaving the water in the tub, then use a 1 or 2 gallon plastic container to dip the water out of the tub for toilet flushing. Also use the facilities elsewhere as much as possible. Hang up your laundry to dry, and wash it at a laundromat or somewhere else if you can. Try to use the same dishes and silverware throughout the day so you have less to wash, and dishwashers usually use less water than it takes to wash dishes by hand. Keep TV watching and internet to a minimum, don't turn lights on unless it's too dark to see. It's kind of hard to do, but get perishable food on a daily basis and eat it that day, so you don't have to use the fridge, and don't get anything frozen. (also you eat fresher food that way) You could consider building an outhouse, but it might be prohibited by zoning...
