thats thinking about freeskiing as in D-Spins, Mistys, Rodeos, Corks and the rest of everything. but freeskiing back in the day was just skiing for the hell of it, going off shit and busting a phat cossack or mule kick. freeskiing was just doing what you wanted to do on skis cause it was fun

Well if were talking free skiing, then nameless hot doggers that started it all in the 70's, but Scott Shmidt brought so called extreme skiing into the spotlight and inspired all of the riders that came before the new canadian air force. As for throwing tricks in lines and off cliffs, thats been done since the 70s but didnt get thrown into the spotlight until mcconkey.

As tempted as I am to agree with Tufflemire being 'The Godfather', my better judgement says that Mike Douglas legitimately owns that title, and that Tufflemire probably got drunk one night, and then mugged Douglas and stole it.

were talking freeskiing not newschool. Today the term freesking is used in place of extreeme, but what it was ment to mean was just to ski for your self and choose the style you want outside of organization and compitition.

how is tuffelmire even mentioned, im not raggin on him, but he wasnt and still isn't extremly well known. He could have been doing this shit a long time ago, but guys like mike d get the title cause they were doin more than just toolin around
he took steps to develop the first twins and bring the movement mainstream so we have the skis and parks we got today

Schmidt was the first skier i ever looked up to, him and Alberto Tomba were the first reconizable skiers i could remember. I've watched those guys ski ever since i saw my first ski movie and slalom race. and i said plake cause if you look at 80% of the freeskiing population, they all seem to act in at least some part like him. he was the original poster boy for freeskiing, much like Tanner is today. Schmidt compared to Plake always seemed more refined off the slopes, but Schmidt was always pushing it more than anybody else on the mountain.

Hey, you guys can argue between Plake and Schmidt, but to me Schmidt took what was held to be skiing at the time and to it to the extreme e.g. extreme skiing. Now Plake took it a step further; they're both widely known, and it could be a draw, but Plake lived the same way both on and off the mountain, And he has a huge mowhawk!
