Moment Bibby 186 or 190s???

Ok so, I have my heart set on moment bibbys. Problem is that i don't know which size to get.
The 186s are softer overall, more sidecut and half camber. They are basically a BC jib ski like the JJs.
he 190s are apparently much stiffer, designed for big mountain charging and cliff stomping. They have a long effective edge for a pow ski and significant camber and larger turn radius.
Im 5'11 and 165 pounds.
Im used to stiff skis and that is generally what i like to ski for the stability in variable snow conditions. What im concerned about is the length and stiffness of the 190s. I do ski a lot of TIGHT trees and chutes and im just not 100% sure i can handle that much ski.
now i know these things are rockered so they ski short but im just curious to see what some experienced people have to say.
Thanks.

I think it depends no what you want to use them for. If you're a strong skier and want to charge, go for the 190, but if you want to play a round a bit more, go for the 186. I don't think they're supposed to be super stiff. I think someone on here posted a pretty detailed review of the 190, so that might help you make up your mind if you can find it.

yeah i saw that review but that guys is 215 pounds and a bit taller. I guess what im worried about now is that it going to be a pain in the ass to ski the 190s in the trees because ill have to expend so much energy swinging them around? Is this a valid concern?

Yeah it's def a valid concern, but you'll probably be ok. The rocker will definitely help you out. I tend to be a bit biased when it comes to length - I really like longer skis. For the past couple seasons, I used 183 Volkl Katanas in trees and loved em. I'm 5'8" btw. This season I'm gonna be riding 191 ON3P Wrens. You could also mount a little closer to center to make em feel shorter.

Get the 190. You will have absolutely ZERO problems slicing the shit out of the snow in tight spots.

im gonna go the opposite and say 186. im on the previous years bibbys, which are either 186 or 187, basically the same, and i find that they charge fine as it is. 190, seems kinda long at 5'11" if you really are doing a lot of tight trees. and i really dont think you will miss the added length of the 190 at any point. so i vote 186

im gonna say that you should really consider a different ski. You need a fat ski that is shorter and stiffer. Look at seths, other moments, salomons

Seths are not stiff at all and are definitely not stiffer than Bibby's

I think the 186 is what you want. Its going to be enough ski for you since you are only 165. It's also a lot more playful in tight areas.

Also keep in mind that the 186 bibbys have no camber while the 190s do. My dad who is 5'9" loved the bibby 190s when he tried them and he isn't really heavy he's 160.

which ones did you get? i will be in trees also and want a playful ski more than a charger. but am 6'1 175 and am worried the 186 with the rocker will be too short at speed. any similar skis to the 186 a little longer?

there's a lot of great discussion of the bibbys in either length over on tgr. if you prefer the length of the 186 but want the extra charge of the 190, it might be worth checking out the night train in a 186 which from the sound of it would be perfect for ya. I believe it fits between the 186 and 190 bibby in terms of flex.

here's a night train review: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179037
and a long discussion of the moment line that throws up some good debate on the bibby later on

sounds like the NT is your ski...

I like the 190 size more, but the flex of the night train does sound good. I checked the effective edge listed on their website. the 186 NT is the lowest of the three. it might just ski too short

Dont know if its too late to help but I got the 186's and I am 6ft 165lb. I find that they work great for me and I really like the zero camber. I think they serve my weight well and I can still push pretty hard on them. It took a little getting used to on steeps but I think that is with any ski.

I did get the 190s, trying them out on saturday in whistler, will report back. theres only like 140cm of edge touching the ground so i think it will be ok in terms of nimbleness besides, i've skied stiffer skis with longer effective edge. Underfoot they are very stiff with some flex in the tail(still very stiff) and a little softer in the tip. I plan to mount them -3 or -4 so they feel a bit shorter.
All times are Eastern (-5)
