Where do you mount your skis for backcountry jibbing? Do you mount them center or just a little back for more control?

i had center mounted hellbents, aside from the fact that hellbents fucking suck i guess they'd be good for hopping around with no poles trying to hand drag off stumps

If you look real hard for it. Not really though. It's more I'd love to go out west and ski baccountry.


And sure mount Bohemia is better than what we have here, but not for vertical. Lutsen and Spirit have close to that, lutsen might have more but i could be wrong. We just don't get any snow.

on rockered skis id go true center. thats what i had on my bents and they were soo much fun. but if there not rockered then i would go 1-2 back. anymore i think would make switch in pow a little difficult

i will throw this out there, i, no_steeze, did not enjoy skiing on hellbents. i found them lifeless, too soft, and only good in bottomless pow which i seem to rarely get

they happen to be great in the park. I won't argue this with you, you're entitled to your point of view, but I will not have kids on here being turned off to the idea of hellbents just because you didn't like them.

interesting. your the first ive heard of that truly didnt enjoy them. and i disagree. i used bents in park a lot and i liked em. i would tho prefer something a bit smaller but honesly they really fun on rails n such. the only issue i had would be the weight. a bitt to heavy but still such a great innovative ski.

yep i found them heavy and just dead on my feet, the only time they moved was when the tips were flapping around in crud. i really just think it's the type of skiing i like to do. i'm not a jibber, i don't like hopping around in pow, i like going as fast as i can through crud and pow making as few turns as possible...just the way i prefer to ski and i think anyone will tell you that bents are not made for that, so therefore i did not like them

i'm perfectly entitled to not like a ski

I'd go 2cm back. You can still ski switch fine but when you want to ski forwards on steep terrain it's a lot better than centered.

A preference towards a ski is not a community based decision.  You have your right not to like a ski.

But I think the bentlys charge in the pow, and the chop.  There is a lot of chatter but I don't worry about it a whole lot.  They don't chatter in pow, and actually have 'pop' in pow, from my experience.  The tips and tails work as shock absorbers due to their flex in the pow/chop and allow the rest of the ski to perform. 

As for the main point of this threat, it really depends on the ski.  My bentlys(189cm) are mounted like -2 from true center with jesters.  You really have to judge how much switch riding you are going to do.  It is very proportional.  If you do more, mount them more forward.  You will lose a bit of true pow skiing ability, but will gain a ton of switch pow skiing ability.  I also like having tails when I ski. 

I grew up racing, so I like to charge with my shins on the tounge. 

It really depends on the ski and what you indend to do with it.

see i found the soft tips and tails made the stiff middle of the ski drop down into the troughs between patches of snow in crud therefore causing an enormous explosion out of each trough you pass, making a super choppy and unstable ride. i only found them manageable for charging in very soft crud and lots of pow, in anything else i'd much rather have something stiff as a 2 x 4 just for cutting through everything as fast as possible

i race as well and i love nothing more than flexing the shit out of my boots and making as few turns as possible but i found bents really couldn't handle it, i didn't like how jibby they felt, all they wanna do is hop up and down and thats not the kind of skiing i like to do

i would've preferred to ride 189's tho, i was riding 179's

correct me if im wrong but the 189s are a different ski the the 79s. pretty sure there a hell of a lot stiffer and have a lot more rocker. so maybe the 189s are more your ski because of the stiffness

unless you're sledding into the bc booters you're gonna want them back from center a little bit.  will help with any nasty stuff you have to ski on the way out and could make it more fun if there's any powder.
