Between skis...help me out

debating between some fatties, I could really use some extra info from anyone with advice. Im between '10 obSethed 179s and '10 line blend 178(?)s...help me out peeps, any tips are greatly appreciated.

psh those aren't fatties, real men ride on3p's, based on the info you gave, i recommend the jmo, billy goat, wren, caylor, and great scott

now, because those are all different, moral of the story is give more info

Age
Weight
Height
Skier Type (I, II, III)
What do you ski? Is this a park/pow/all-mountain ski?
Where do you ski? What resort? East/West? How much snow/year?
What have you been looking at? Have you done any research?
What skis did/do you have? What do you like/not like about them?

i appreciate the recommendations, and at one point the caylors were on the top of the list, but being from mass I really dont need anything above 105ish for vermont/nh deep days (although moonlight basin is in the near future)...basically just looking for some further info about either of those two skis from anyone who has skied them slash ripped shit to pieces...and as much as id love to get on a pair of on3p's, shop discounts on k2/line shit is key. In terms of info tho...im 165 lbs, 5'9, and enjoy long walks on the beach...i see that you got a pair of tahoes...care to hype them up at all?

i ski in southern vt and i own 191 caylors, 192 garbones, and 186 billy goats, i find fat skis to not be limiting at all on the east coast, i think they're incredibly fun to ski

tahoes are great ec groomer skis, they ski great on icy days with a race edge on them when i want to just tear up mt snow, however i just don't see them as a pow ski, too much sidecut and camber and everything, they do fine on pow days but they aren't as fun as other options

i rode jj's a lot on the east last year which is why i'd recommend billy goats or something of that type, don't let the waist scare you away, the taper also makes them turn on a dime in tight trees and everything, the whole elf shoe type shape is ridiculous as an ec one ski pow quiver

based on discounts, i'd recommend bacons. they do not ski like something that is 115 underfoot, they're super easy to turn on the groomers, fun in the trees, and forgiving. while i see the jj shape as an expanded bacon with more capabilities and versatility, the shop deal is hard to pass up. i rode the bacons a bit as an ec pow ski and they were pretty fun. i think if you get blends or something they're just gonna feel like slightly large park skis but that's it and they won't be that fun in pow

just my $.02, don't let location limit your ski choice, i love fat skis on icy ec groomers, just adds some spice to a regular ski day :)

out of curiousity how did you like the stiffness of the bacons? initially I kind of feel like they would be slightly too soft but then again ive never ridden em so I cant say for sure..

yep, main gripe with bacons, too soft

they do pretty well for being soft, i took them to vail for like 4 days over christmas and skied deep pow, crud, and bumps at beaver creek and they held up fine for everything

they land super well in pow, landings off like 10 footers are effortless on bacons for some reason, they just plop right down and you're good to go, no hard impacts. i think that was my favorite part about them

yea i think thats partially why i wasnt so turned on by the bacons.  the seths just have such a good reputation on groomers, which is probly where a good majority of my hill time is spent outside the park. the biggest issue is just flyin out to montana in january, obviously a wider ski is a preference but at the same time id love to be able to have a ski thats dank on groomers as well as in deeps. I guess its just something ill have to compromise tho

im telling you man, jj's all the way

they truly kill it in all categories, i can imagine the billy goats do the same. i rode jj's for 2 weeks in chile as well as icy groomers, they ski so well on groomers, i even came in 3rd in some portillo race on them, the first 2 guys being a college racer and a brazillian national team guy /claim so they do just fine on groomers

once you take them in the pow they make 6" feel like 2 feet, they float so nice that no matter how hard the snow is underneath, you can crank out massive turns and not feel any of the shit underneath

in crud they get tossed but if you don't do any speed checks and keep them on edge they'll cut through anything

ill keep my open for the JJs for sure. im sorta leaning towards the obSeths due to price, 105 underfoot seems pretty reasonable for width too
