Otsego's park is supposed to be the best in the midwest this season.

I just got a brochure from my local shop for Otsego's park. Half the resort is going to be a park with 50+ rails and features and the designer is the guy who designs X games parks! I definitely want to go there this year.

According to their website you can buy day passes for $60. Or spend all kindsa money on season passes ($1000+).

It says guests so I dont know if you need to be a members guest or you can just go by yourself.  $60 is kinda expensive too.  Probably wont go unless its going to be a good as they say.

Yeah I would probably never go to boyne either.  Way too long of a drive when the park at Mad River is getting better and better.  Havent been to boyne in a long time but I dont remember the park being that good and 500ft of vert aint too fun.

Massive terrain park she says.

$395 for a trail one year membership, after that its like $1000+ a year. The $395 trial gets you 2 comp. lift tickets ($60 a ticket). So you buy your $400 membership, get 2 free lift tickets, and everytime you come to ski you pay $60 also for your lift ticket.

So its a private kinda club.

They allow you to bring one friend once......without a membership. They said they are known for their terrain park and it is absolutely massive.

Sounds like the Windells of Michigan or something.

We probably never heard of it because it is an exclusive richie place. Who wants to spend $1000 a year on membership, oh yea and $60 a lift ticket all the time? I can buy a season pass to Crystal, Nubs, and Boyne for $1000, and almost have enough left over for Shanty Creek.

i still don't understand why a private retreat-resort for rich people would spend so much time/money on park skiing and snowboarding.
i have seen video of this place though. they built a hip that was seriously massive, but i couldn't find any footage of anybody doing real sick shit off of it. from what i remember it was only straight airs, nothing else.
basically that whole place confuses me.

I called them and bugged them today (acting like a gaper dumbass). I am like so how much does it cost to ski? And shes like its $60 to ski and you need a membership, it is a private ski club. And I am like hmm, a membership? You mean I can't just come and ski and pay $60?

No, you need a membership, and luckily I can take advantage of buying a membership for $395 for the first year (but every year after that its like $1000+, plus $60 per lift ticket).

So then I start trying to get down to the "why does this need to be like this, i mean you discourage me and all my friends from skiing their, we're all in college we can't afford $1000 for just a membership, yet alone lift tickets, or $400 plus $60 lift tickets. She just replies with "well we are membership only, its always been that way", and I am like yeah but do't you think you could make more money if you were open to the public? She didn't really have an answer other then saying they have a weekend

ONE WEEKEND in late March they open up to the general public for $60 lift ticket prices. She said the date is always tentative, and we would need to check back for updates.

If you call, its some kinda bitchy lady that was working the first time I called, the tone on her voice just says "yeah its not for you guy, tis for rich people, get ya broke ass off the phone!"

Private ski clubs.....pssh. I dunno. The place better be epic, the lift lines better be as fast as the speed of sound. There better never be a line for a lift. The way they hype their park they make it sound like its the best thing since Keystone.

But its just a private rich club in general I think. I think its a private golf course, so when you are not skiing you are out using your $2000 membership for unlimited driving range usage. Also you get to sit in their sauna and hot tub....

I dunno, but I say fuck these places. They think they are all elite and high and mighty. I want to check it out so bad in March but I don't want to give them a dime of my money.

But then again if the "open to the public weekend" gives them a chance to see how many people want to ski there....well then they might lower prices or decide something else.  It seems the $395 pass thing is new since 08/09, and its to try and attract people with the shitty economic environment we have in Michigan.

its right up there with boyne if not better
only problem is that they dont have nearly as much vertical to work with which isnt a big deal just more chair ride

pretty much the only people in the park are little rich kids that do nothing but get in your way
and snowboarders

only a few skiers out there

so basically I'm going to have to win the lottery to ever have a chance to ride there... I can't believe they even make enough money to keep there heads out of the water in a Michigan economy. I've only meet one person in my life with a membership there.

Dude my friend has a membership there I guess. I'm about to check it out with him.  He said the park is absolutely amazing. Just look at the pics on their website its so sweet.  Why can't they just open to the public.  That's so dumb.

They are big in to snowboarding it has appeared. You can e-mail the o-park. I e-mailed them and this is what they said...

My message:
I have a bunch of buddies who want to ski and practice at your terrain park, but we lack a trust fund, and we are also college students. Is there any way to ski and just pay for lift tickets?

I am just saying for the cost of membership I can afford to spend 1 month in Utah, or buy a season pass to Nubs Nob and Boyne and have enough to go to Utah for 20 days.......I see a lot of bragging on your website about your park, but what good is bragging if no one can ride it?

Let me know what you can work out,
I have 14 skiers including myself tryin to figure out how to session at your park without taking out a mortgage for your membership.

Their reply (they sent this at like midnight last night):

I will fully go to bat for you

BTW I think it's BS for sure

been trying to open the public flood gates for two years for you guys... I mean... how wierd is it to have a private ski area and a public golf course

this year should be extra rad I have the US, Japanese, NZ, and Austrailian national halfpipe teams coming up to train on the new 22ft halfpipe as well as 13 more features and of course the  indoor bowled skateramp I built this summer for them

should be sick

I think for an individual it is only 850 or so for the membership which in essence is a seasons pass and with all the added features it is not a bad deal

who else in the state or the region has over 50 rails and 3 different runs packed with jump lines full bx course that I am adding even more
vert to than the already 1/2 mile
long run

can't wait till the snow flies this year for you guys around here... at my house in Idaho it snowed 2ft couple days ago

I already got several days of
powder in and it's supposed to dump again up there when I get back home later this week

anyway

to get to the otsego club, you take I75 exit 282 and head east a few miles as soon as your out of the town theres a big sign, and thats it

I've had the privilege of talking to the resorts' GM or AM, (i'm not sure which, but he deals with the running of the place) and he told me that the guy that cuts the park, or his crew, are the same ones that cut the pipe for the Olympics, and like build the jumps for random bigger events around the world. I've always had the chance to go down there but never have. I've heard its pretty sick though, but also heard its not worth the price they ask for it.

If I was local, and I chilled in the hot tub and sauna all the time...and they had a work out area I could use year round...and take advantage of the free golfing...things might look a little different.

But yeah at $60 a lift ticket plus the membership, its the cost of an epic trip out west.

Oh, and BTW....
I've been talking to some people and after this past years' spring board meeting at Boyne Highlands, I would watch out for them to step up their game even more than they did last year. Which was massive considering they had the first real jumps in like two years in all of northern MI. last season.

Well Boyne had 2 sets of identical features, the wall tap, 2 half pipes, and then the jump at the end with 2 (or 3?) lips. It was pretty fun.

Schuss...they may have more rails, and the spine, but they do not have as cool of jumps. I have family in Bellaire though so I might make a visit to Schuss as they have some really good deals to be had.

I hope Crystal's terrain park compliments what Boyne Mountain lacks since I will be going up there multiple times a week.

I liked schuss's park this year a lot. i only went towards the end of the season but it was sick.
highlands was super sick too.
i don't know what to say about crystal yet, i work with the park crew a lot and they're real chill and all, they just don't tend to get shit done. im thinking a couple tables, like the ones last year, hopefully bigger who knows.
