Where can you learn how to mount bindings?

I was just informed it will be 75$ just to mount my binders. I want to learn how to mount binings. Are there any workshops of some sort or anything where you can learn? Or is it more of a past down art?

def go to another shop that is insanely over priced and the layouts for bindings are like a 100+ and take some practice def go talk to them or go to another store personally i would never drop more thatn 30 on a mount

Well shops are quite sparse where i live, so...the 75$ mount is pretty much my only option.

there is a video in the binding maintenance thread that is sticky'd at the top of the page.  Only do it if you are extremely careful.

You can just do it how its done on wide skis and how its been done for years before jigs.  Measure 3 times, drill once.

I am pissed/  My parents brought my skis up to school today and I got my lizzies mounted the other week.  I found out it cost $60 to mount them.  What the fuck.  I was pissed.  I could have mounted them myself with extreme caution and taken a whole fucking day to make sure everything was correct.  I also could have gotten them mounted up here for around $40 tops probably.

I wouldn't mount my own skis. I would pay 60 bucks or whatever. You only have to do it once, and by the time you get all the stuff and figure out and worry about doing it perfect and everything...........just so much easier to bring them in to the shop. It takes less time for me to work to earn the money to do that than mount them myself. Thats just me though

Get to know a tech, there normally pretty happy to show you how its done, or even better mount em for you for a box of beer. Mounting pretty straight forward if you have a jig, and spend some time doing it.

It is true that you could probably do it yourself, but you have to keep something things in mind.

1) Like Embraced said, measure three times, drill once

2) You want to use a drill bit that is the same diameter as in the core of the screw

3) You need to know the exact depth you can drill to - deep enough for the screw length without gettiing to the ptex on the other side

4) Go ahead, measure again.

5) First try on a junk pair of skis

6) I still think it is worth the $50, though it is a ridiculous rip off.  Mine shop charged me $65 recently and I couldnt believe it.  The previous cost I paid was $25.

geeez, when i worked at the shop back home we charge 30 for a mount if you didnt buy either your skis or bindings from us. if you bought either or it was 15, and if you bought both it was free.

It's like 30 dollars last time I got a mount done, but all I had them do was move the heelpiece. (I dunno if they charged me less or not for that, probably not)

today i just paid $40 to have my new thalls mounted, poles cut to length (kind of lazy and didnt feel like measuring out what i wanted them at), oh and i asked the shop if they could use a pair of my boots that they had in stock so i could use my other skis at a railjam where i live while my new skis were being mounted. pretty stoked. $40 canadian by the way

you need a lot of tools, a lot of shop skill, a lot of patience, and a damn good reason to do it yourself

it's very hard and somewhat annoying but a pretty cool thing to know how to do, i don't recommend it though unless you are very competent and have a pair of shitty skis to try it on

i've done it myself twice :) on a pair of 09-10 ep pros and alpha 1's

just be super care full, measure twice drill once, use the right drill bit and you'll be fine
