Let me start by saying I don't have anything against snowboarding, or skiers that wear snowboard outerwear. 

As far as I know Peter Olenick, Ian Cosco, Mike Riddel, and Tom Wallisch currently do not have outerwear sponsors.  Maybe they have deals now or are working on them but that doesn't change my point.  Snowboard movies have bigger budgets than ski movies, cough thats it thats all cough.

When you buy snowboard outerwear you are supporting snowboard brands which then supports snowboard teams and movies.  If your looking at getting some new gear please check out brands that support the skiing.

Of course you want to get what you think looks good, and express yourself with your style, but there are lots of ski brands out there and i'm sure if you look you can find something you will be pumped to ski in.

Peter O was not on Orage..he was on Obermeyer..he isn't on Obermeyer anymore and was wearing Analog outewear at X-Games.

Tom just signed on with Scott USA for outerwear, goggles, and skis.

Riddle is not on SMS

Cosco - I do believe that he rides for SAGA

Pete O was no longer on Obermeyer last year.  I know for a fact that Mike riddel is no longer on SMS, heard it straight form the man himself, claim, whatever.  Cosco is not on Saga that i know, he was wearing their stuff, but was wearing spyder stuff this summer.  Until i see chug on the saga website or he says he rides for them i would not consider him on their team.  I honestly dont know about tom but I thought he did not have an outerwear sponsor.

Sorry I forgot Obermeyer and Under Armor, im sure there are more.

While all of you have good fact points, I think that the spirit of the post should really be appreciated. For me, it's not so important that snowboard companies have such big budgets and the ski industry is so piddling and under appreciated. More just this thread really made me think about starting to purchase steezy shit that will actually go toward something I like watching. I just don't watch snowboard videos but I sure do watch ski movies.

while the facts aren't necessarily all there in this thread (and not to say that I have all the facts or anything), but I see what you are getting at. The more that core skiing brands receive support, the easier it will be for companies to see the investment opportunity in the ski industry. Outerwear has always been that "on the fence" subject, because it doesn't really matter what you are wearing, it matters what you are doing. But if you are going to support what you are doing, a good way to go about it would be by supporting companies that feed directly back into the industry. Wow that was wordy.

So far the only thing officially is Goggles, just wanna say that before people go insane again. Everything else is rumor and here-say until it's official. (I'm not say he hasn't, just saying its not official quite yet).

i have always and will always only supports skier specific brands, at least in terms of outerwear. who is going to support these smaller yet still amazing companies if we dont? some of the big juggernaut companies dont need any help but the smaller guys need skiers to rep there shit

yet, he was repping Amplid Syntax at Freestyle.ch, but was wearing Scott Goggles. I'm not saying it's not true (I'm 90% sure it's true), just saying it's not official - remember what site you're on, people tend to freak out when you say something about someone's sponsors (especially TWall).

despite the inacuracies, i like his point, but the problem is that big snowboard companies can offer cheaper prices, and until saga makes a 70$ pair of pants, I (and many other broke highschool and college students that make up most of the market for these companies) can't really afford to buy them from anyone but a BST thread, which in turn does nothing for the ski company.

The problem is some people pay for more than 600$ for a new set of saga and get it the next winter. those kid have a serious problem since they started.  so why would people support those new companie that act like core companie. they make so-so quality product. they ask way too much and cant ship their stuff inside 4month . this is rediculous. fucking rediculous.

Buying stuff from legit company is the best. Supporting company that make quality product for years and that arent that expensive. Snowboard or skiing company I dont care as long as there product are quality for what you pay.

i could care less if the company makes snowbaord gear or sking gear. hell, they could be any sporting company that made techincal outwer wear and if it was good and cheap i would buy it. I buy burton becasue they have a multitude of styles and colors at inexpensive prices. they make very big shit (team fit) for cheap. no other skiing brand is doing this in my opinion.

of the "ski-only" outwear companies, how many make tall sizes?  tall sizes are a blessing to those lengthy people who wish to have pants simultaneous cover their ass and touch their toes at the same time without being a 40" waist because its an XXXXL. 

burton makes its cargo pants in a tall size.

And finally, I'll give my input after four posts in this thread. I feel like people should buy from skiing companies but more importantly from local shops. Or if those shops aren't accessable, then people shouls buy from evo, backcountry, untracked or any online retailer that actually supports the industry. I think that people should avoid Sports authority and stores like that at all costs.

yes, but if your buying used or lastyears outerwear at a discount price it still is a good thing.  By buying last years stuff you prove to retailers that they can finish off their stock run and not have that brand taking up space with last years stuff.  And if your buying someones used ski stuff they are probably buying some new gear.  I guss part of it for me to is I like the feeling of repping ski companies.

burton has the ability to do that because they produce such mass amounts in production runs greatly reduces their costs.  Yes ski companies might cost a little more in some cases, and they always will with this attitude.

while i would love to support a ski company, unfortunatly i cannot justify spending $400 plus on outerwear when i can find just as good, if not better quality outerwear at a fraction of the price.

I would love to support all the companies you listed. I dont care about pros, if you want a deal, get an agent and make it happen. But, every company you mentioned doesnt do it for me as far as fit, materials, style and function goes. Thats just me though.
