Dumonts or Wall?

Hi Newschoolers, i´ve been browsing through gear talk for quite some time and searched alot. But i can´t find a thread that i can relate to. i´m gonna use it for stritly for jumping so im not looking for a butter ski but stiff, but yet not to stiff.

So i narrowed it down to two choices as you can see in the title. I know that salomon had som durability issue this year but its also seems like a dope ski. I also saw that i got the editors choice on freeskier and 9.3/10 in jump so it should be pretty dope. But have done anything about the durability issue?

My specs are: 230 lbs 6.2 and consider myself as a expert. Ride on the east coast.

Ohhh, it would be awesome if you can give me some pros and cons!

out of those 2 skis, i would go with the dumonts. I believe the walls are stiffer BUT they are symmetrical so Im not sure if you wanted to backmount a few for jumps, but the dumonts handle jumps really well depending how big you go, and well i have the 08 ones and they are just sick overall.

I'm about the same height nd weight as you. I demoed the 09 dumonts and they are a kick ass ski when it comes to jumps. I had the 08 dumonts and they were way to soft for me, they would chatter  alot nd it was just not good, so if you go with the dumonts deff go with the 09's or 2010's. I my self just got the 185 volkl wall but i like a stiff ski like that. but they are both good skis.

the dumonts are way stiff in the tails, and i have also heard that the edges rip out of them pretty easy on rails. The walls are deffinitley a solid ski and better for what your looking for. Symettrical will be a nice feature for hitting a lot of jumps. in the freeskier buyers guide they were both rated the same for playfulness. If i were you i would go with the walls because a symettrical ski makes a huge difference in a really good way when it comes to park. The dumonts are also heavier than the walls, if that matters to you.

Another ski that would be perfect for you is the nordica ace of spades. They are rated higher in playfulness and jumps. They are also symettrical (bonus) and when i was at windells some of the pros that had rid thim had only good things to say about how they handle on jumps. they would be the perfect ski for what your looking for.

personally i would go to a shop and speak to the guys at the shop that have skied these skis...

i really dont like trusting in buyers guide ratings as they are typically very biased.  also they are usually influenced by how much money the certain company spends in ads in the particular buyers guides (which i just learned from a rep friend of mine)

i use to put a lot of weight into buyers guide ratings but have found them to be very inaccurate in many cases.

so get out and speak to the guys who have actually skied them at your local shop or go out and demo them yourself if possible.

I just bought myself a pair of volkl walls and would definitely recommend those

Pros:
stiff, yet very playful in the tips and tails. this allows plenty of pop, and a good edge hold in icy conditions
symmetrical sidecut
87mm waist for a little fun in the pow if you want to
theyre made by volkl, a very good company known for durability

Cons:
vertical sidewall can easily be chipped
price. volkl skis are expensive and if you are getting the '10 model of the walls, you will be easily spending $700 with bindings


shop around for the '09s like i did. i found new 169s for $280 shipped

Never thought that such guides would be corrupted, but a good point will definitely consider going to a shop and not listning as much to guides (don´t mean newschoolers :D). But thanks for the tip!!

yeah no problem.   for sure get out to a local shop if possible.

and yeah definitely a lot of kids on here have skied and maybe even own the product as well... so NS is a great resource as well!
