Which kind of Subaru Impreza?

So I have finally narrowed down my list of cars to this.
But now the question is which one?
Problem is that my mom is only giving me 10000 so the rest is up to me I am looking at about 5000 from my part but less is always good.
I have been scoping around and have seen a 10000 2006 2.5i
Besides that there are no other deals around so, should I wait and what should i look for?

If someone handed you a check and said "Here is 10k, you can spend it on a car.  If you want more than 10k, you make the difference."

Would you REALLY turn that down?  I find it hard to believe you would

To the OP, earlier on the page or the end of the previous page I posted the difference in the Imprezas, look it up and pick one.  You won't be sorry.

My brother got a civic and it has front wheel drive and its the worst car ever in the snow. Also this is not my first car I have been driving a 1990 Toyota pickup for the last year.

ok, so you worked for your parents. Fact remains that they are giving you 10k to spend on a car. I don't care how you or they got it, they are still giving it to you.

and like i said...do what you want, spend however much you want, i don't care. I'm happy with my car

and just a sidenote...

certain cars are of course better and worse in snow, but its also hugely dependent on the driver. If you suck at driving in the snow, the car won't do that much for you. Obviously that doesn't apply as much when it comes to driving a hummer or a civic through 2 ft of snow.

no shits its the worst car, in 1990 they didnt have- traction control, abs, and the majority of those cars wouldnt stand a chance in a light snow fall in california.

but 10,000 is alot dont care what you fell is appropriate

yes this is very true, but it really depends on the driver, fact and matter, id love to watch people try to drive my car on some winter days, rear wheel drive, v6 standard ford explorer sport, 2dr. basically a ford ranger, but with no traction control and faulty abs. i can do donuts just by tapping the gas and turning the wheel........

I got quoted WAY higher for a swap than that, with no wire splicing needed to be done. Whatever I guess.

I don't know, if I find a good deal on a WRX or STI block I'll take it. I found a STi block for 100$ the other day, but it wasn't in such good shape.

And by the way, I wasn't planning on turboing the stock engine anyway without WRX/STI internals. I was just weighing keeping stock heads/ecu/etc with wrx/sti internals, downpipe, uppipe etc vs. a full blown wrx/sti swap where I would just sell the old engine.

And by the way, the new RS engine is a EJ253, not a EJ251 like on older N/A cars. Both are open blocks though.

However, I'm waiting til the summer to actually swap engines or take on a turbo project, as I won't be relying on my car for skiing then!

Nooooo.... I was talking about what i quoted you on. But also i dont have 15,000 to play with. My mom is giving me 10 so everything above that line comes straight out of my pocket.

And to address how everyone thinks that i am complaining about getting only 10,000 I am not at all. I am very very thankful. And when i said the problem is my parents are only giving me 10,000 comes from the part that finding an impreza for under 10,000 is very hard to find. That is for one that has decent mileage and is newer than 2002.

Ah ya I coulda been wrong on the parts numbers.

As for your swap, your car doesn't have an uppipe or a downpipe.  So you need those.  Also, you can't keep your ECU, you would need a new ECU.  Heads you can keep, but that is about it.  Other bolt ons like alternator, power steering, etc you could get away with.  But you would need new injectors, intake manifold etc.  It isn't too bad if you find someone doing a partout though.

Where are you located? I found my 05 RS with 45k for 8000$. And for all you peeps you want to hate because my parents paid for it, I had the money to buy a WRX on my own but my parents wouldn't let me, so they paid for the RS.

so you already have a car, and now you want to buy and impreza cause thats the hot thing to do? be reasonable here, take the 10,000 your parents are giving you, since your old enought to understand lgoic, buy yourself a decent car, 10,000 is plenty. save money for college, dont worry about the stupid whip, too many kids on this site are worried about being fresh, when they drop thousends of dollars on stuff and put their parents 80,000 into the hole after college.

..... My parents are not GIVING me money. They are helping me buy a car. Doing what you are telling me to do would be like slapping them in the face. They give me money for a car and I spend it on something else. That is just wrong.

nooooooooo, im saying dont waste your money on the car, just use the 10,000, you can get almost new cars for this price, if not buy a good car you like, within this limit......

I just bought an 01 Subaru Impreza rs 2.5 and I absolutely love it. Except for the fact that my insurance jumped from 200 bucks a month to 348 a month. And I have to pay 200 dollars a month for the next 3 years so the car is actually mine. I wish my parents paid for my shit. And 10 grand!?! When are parents gonna stop spoiling their kids and make them figure out the value of a dollar. I worked 3 years dishwashing to buy my first car. little rant my bad

The RS was a trim level for 98-01 imprezas. It was a NA 2.5L. 93-01 there were several trim levels, most with 1.8 and 2.2Ls. The automatic has about a 90/10 power split, the manual is alot closer to 50/50. The 2004 STI had 300hp not 230. And to state that the WRC car uses anything even remotely similar to a wrx 4EAT is a complete falsehood.

10 grand is a good price for your first car, cheap enough to not be a nice ass car that your gonna fuck up, but still safe for when you probably will crash.
and you WILL fuck up your first car in some way, nobody thinks they will but it always happens.  and its not a bad thing, you make mistakes and its fun and you learn from them.

for 10 grand why not get a wrx if you want an impreza?

pick one of these up but a wagon for a g-note. wagon because insurance would be wayyy cheap.

swap in a wrx motor and tranny from a 2.5 wrx, and youll be set, and will be faster than a wrx from all the weight savings. and youll be saving about 6 or so grand depending on if you did the swap yourself, if not, then dont do it.
