Dalbello boot question

They are both a 327mm shell.

The shell of a half size is always the same size/length as its corresponding full size. In other words, a 26.5 shell is the same as a 26 shell. The BSL (boot sole length) increases when you go to a 27. The liner is the only thing that changes size with a half size boot. All of this is true for all ski boot companies.

I think some companies even use the same liners and just advertise half sizes just to make people happy

i work a ski shop and i was told that if u know what ur doin u can find somewhere on the liner that they are the same size... its just something companies do to try to sell more... dont be fooled

Solly Liners don't change from 28 to 28.5/etc.  I don't remember if dalbello's do or not, but if they do it won't matter after two days.

And I think a 28/28.5 Dalbello is 326 BSL, same as Solly.  I wish Dalbello's weren't so heavy, but I am in Solly Falcon CS Pros now anyways, which IMO are much better(smoother flex, lighter) and should fit almost anybody that fits into Il Moros/Kryptons.  Falcons are a slightly tighter heel and toe box, with a slightly lower instep that works better with footbeds.  28.5 il moros w/liners = about 12lbs, falcon CS pros in 28.5= about 10, and Falcon 9s just under that.  29.5 FTs(325 BSL) are about 9lbs/pair I think, so I would call Falcons fairly light.

Nah man, same liners 99% of the time..

Sometimes they might lower the bootboard in the 1/2 size up, but often no difference

I hope my 27.5 Il Moro's aren't that bad.

many time the difference between a 28 and 28.5, will be that the insole has a tiny extra layer of padding. Wont make a difference after 2 days of skiing.

some companies do make a half size shell in there top of the line race boots, to ensure a extrmely precise fit, but only a few select boots are like this.

The reason they dont make the half size in the shell is because the mold for a ski boot shell, is extremely expensive. Not sure on the number but its alot. So to save cost companies make the same shell and change the liner by adding padding or what not to, say the 28, and take some out on the 28.5, But still i believe some companies use the exact same liner in some half sizes, just to make people happy.

Why Dalbello sale in Europe full and half sizes of boots, but in US they sale only half sizes?

Is it just marketing for different countries and really for example 27 and 27.5 boots have absolutely the same liner inside?

Old bump but still somehow relevant (I would have thought we would have accepted one size by now)

these days I don’t know of any alpine boot which uses any difference for 27/27.5 for example. Some touring boots do actually change things but in alpine for the most part it’s exactly the same.


most brands are trying to go to just calling the boot both sizes and maybe including a volume reducer which is supposed to “change the fit” for the half size

personally I would like to just eradicate it and just call them all whole sizes.


But even this past December during our sales meetings we had European reps asking for us to make half sizes! They said European shops are asking for them still even though they have not existed in years haha.


so honestly I think a lot of it is just shops not being willing to evolve or it could be customers not getting good info and if a customer asks for it a shop wants it.

But hopefully we can educate these people and just make one size soon.
