Windows editing software?

Hello all, i am a windows user and like many want to start making some quality edits/moves ect.  but, i have no idea what software to get i dont want to spend a ton of money and i would like something that is relatively easy to use.  also i really like the livetype program for mac if there is anything like that as well that would be awesome.  i search bared and i could not really find anything if there is already a thread on this sorry.
