HOW TO EFFECTIVELY BOYCOTT WME

Everyone is chomping at the bit to figure out what THEY can do to help in this WME v. Level 1 Productions lawsuit debacle. People are talking about making a ruckus at WME events, boycotting, telling their friends and family not to support WME, and all kinds of other things. That's great, but the best thing you can do to help Level 1 is to support their movie.

Now, that being said, if you really want to hurt WME, all of these ideas flying around might work... but to make a big dent you need to go after their sponsorship. Here is a list of their film tour sponsors in the US and Canada, and their contact info. I suggest you send an email to EACH of them.

What to do is to send a brief, politely written e-mail or letter that says the reason you're emailing; for example, that they are a sponsor of Warren Miller Entertainment, and that Warren Miller Entertainment has launched a frivolous suit against Level 1 Productions, which is bad for the sport. Then explain that as long as they support WME, you will not be buying their products, and will tell your friends, family and associates to join you in this boycott.

From what i read of warren millers defense(the document posted on the news page about it). It seems that the contract made between warren miller and WME was only binding for 2 years.  Plus that contract was binding on warren not on level 1.  It would of been more appropriate for WME to sue warren not level 1(still would be a dick move).  If Berman has got a decent lawyer i think he will win.  It still sucks for Berman even if he wins because all the time and money diverted away from what is really important. SKIING

Using the suggestions from the OP, I've been sending this. I think it about covers everything and doesn't seem dick-ish.

I understand your company is a sponsor of the Warren Miller Entertainment Group. In case your company was not aware, WME has launched a frivolous suit against Level 1 Productions. Their reasons and pursuit of these charges is concerning, and bad for our sport. I would like to inform you that I will no longer support your company in any way, so long as you remain associated with Warren Miller Entertainment, and will advise my friends and family to follow suit.

i would send back that they are completely missing the point of targeted advertising and are actualy making their brand look bad to parts of the skier demographic.

I am not disappointed " in the selection criteria organizers have established for this event," I don't even know how you got that out of my email.

I'm saying that if you continue to fund WME you will lose customers and a demographic to which you seek to advertise to through their films."

Same stuff most other companies are saying. Here's what I wrote:

Dear Colorado Tourism, I am an avid skier and love coming from Canada to one of the most beautiful states in the US, but it has come to my attention that your assosciation has a sposorship with Warren Miller Entertainment. Now if you haven't heard, WME has filed a rather frivolous and pointless lawsuit against Level 1 Productions for having Warren Miller himself appearing in L1P's new movie. Not only is this bad for our sport and Level 1 Prductions, which is a relatively new AND local company, it's bad for buisness. Because of this, me and several other people will regretfully boycott any brand related to or involved with WME. Furthermore, I will inform my family and friends to join in the boycott as well as 100's of people on inernational skiing forums such as Newschoolers.com. So in short, I implore you to consider withdrawing your sponsorship from WME but to also consider how much Level 1 has promoted the state of Colorado in their videos as well. Thank you very much for your time, Andrew Cinch

if the companies reply with an email back stateing the wme actions have nothing to do with there tell them that a big chunk of freeskiing population is losing respect for there company because of what wme and that includeing yourself will no longer have anything to do with the companies. it could passible change there minds

Yeah kind of. We email them something, they reply back with the typical "whatever WME does does not directly represent our opinions" stuff.

key is you have to make them think it's affecting their reputation by being a sponsor WME.

After just going to the Eye Trip premiere, I am glad to see this thread up again. Eye Trip was sick, so glad that Level 1 didn't get fucked over by this whole ordeal.

Yes we can. We need Level 1 type of crowds there. And we need to be respectfully discouraging patrons from going inside to watch.
I just broke my back though I will make every effort to go there. Luckily, this is my discharge date from rehab.

One more thing, POWDER/NS conglamorate ... how are you going to respectfully participate???

I think the NS community has done a pretty good job of boycotting WME by not buying their movies for a long time, especially for the last 2 years now. Does WME even have a release this year?

in addition to posting on WME's wall, scroll down to before the announcement earlier today, and comment on GAPER'S posts- the true audience of WME. this way they get a notification that brings them back to their post on the WME wall and then they can see all the posts from you guys.

SkiFilmReviews Ltd. boycotts WME

Whilst I admit we are not a large company, I'm hoping that with all of the traffic I get via google that more people will find out. I shall be posting a link to the boycott article on all of the WME (post-Warren Miller sale) films in the database soon.

I hope that other companys who post on NS follow suit.

While this is a horrible thing, you have to understand that a lot of skiers have never even heard of Warren Miller, especially across the pond, be it with or without his influence that our sport may be where it is at the moment. Some just might not care enough.

I mailed all the sponsors last year and got a reply from Corona and Ski Canada that implied that they really didn't care about what I do. So I guess live picketing would be a grea thing to do, but it needs organization and balls, seeing that a lot of people on this site are still being driven to the hill by their parents.

for starters, other film companies should definitely stop selling footage to WME. in their trailer this year i saw at least 5 shots from Revolver, if companies like poorboyz stop selling footage it will show that their not a respected member of the community, as well as make their movies suck more than they already do.

yea, i got banned as well. however, comment on their posts as well, cause thats what shows up when u go to the page, only their comments, unless u click the "other comments" button, and so far they have deleted all the comments that are commenting on their posts... i think thats the best way to get those who don't know about this to realize whats going on.

you guys should just order a bunch of Level 1 gear and bring signs/posters that say what you want. It would be much more effective because I think the "Warren Miller is my friend" might confuse some audiences if they don't know about the drama behind Warren Miller and WME.

Bring signs, be prepared to talk to the people going in and explain why they shouldn't go. Be prepared for questions, etc.
