HOW TO EFFECTIVELY BOYCOTT WME

Everyone is chomping at the bit to figure out what THEY can do to help in this WME v. Level 1 Productions lawsuit debacle. People are talking about making a ruckus at WME events, boycotting, telling their friends and family not to support WME, and all kinds of other things. That's great, but the best thing you can do to help Level 1 is to support their movie.

Now, that being said, if you really want to hurt WME, all of these ideas flying around might work... but to make a big dent you need to go after their sponsorship. Here is a list of their film tour sponsors in the US and Canada, and their contact info. I suggest you send an email to EACH of them.

What to do is to send a brief, politely written e-mail or letter that says the reason you're emailing; for example, that they are a sponsor of Warren Miller Entertainment, and that Warren Miller Entertainment has launched a frivolous suit against Level 1 Productions, which is bad for the sport. Then explain that as long as they support WME, you will not be buying their products, and will tell your friends, family and associates to join you in this boycott.

This actually HELPS!

Companies like Corona are sponsoring WME to try to get people to buy their products. They don't give a fuck about the company or anything else. If they get 200 people e-mailing them telling them that they're actually LOSING business by donating money to WME, they'll think twice about doing it in the future.

To add to that, Corona sponsors a lot of skiing events. They're one of the top 3 sponsors for the Freeskiing World Tour, run by MSI. MSI who also helped run the Poorboyz EDIAS online premiere. These guys are a lot closer linked than they appear.

There was a campaign to stop corporations from advertising on Glenn Beck after he called Obama a racist who hates white people, among other things. Those companies are Walmart, Best Buy, CVS, GMAC, ConAgra, GEICO, Lawyers.com, Men's Wearhouse, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, RadioShack, Roche, SC Johnson, Sanofi-Aventis, Sargento, and State Farm Insurance. That's pretty painful.

What JD wrote is one of the best courses of action.

sorry I mean STICKY.  and everybody on NS should take time to do it seriously. I mean it only take a few minutes of your time to write something good and copy paste to all those email. This will only have effect if they get DUMPED by email from us. So NS get at it because if were only 2-3 to do it , it will have no impact at all.

As a major supporter to a freestyle skiing, I am aware you sponsor warren miller. And if you do not already know they are suing a fellow mainstream ski film productions, Level 1.i believe that Level 1 Productions are more capable in pursuing our sport. So I will no longer buy from your company as long as you sponsor Warren Miller in support of Level 1 productions.

For Corona, should we lie about our age if we our underage, because they don't allow people under the drinking age on their site.  So should we lie about our age and give our real name, lie about our age and give a fake name, use a parents name and age, or not do it at all?

will someone write a broad email that we can customize a little and make applicable to each company?  im doing homework and dont feel like thinking that much extra.  we obviously dont want to all send the same email, but at least an outline

I gave an outline in the original post. The fact that you're willing to write something yourself, that you care enough to do that, is what tells the company that you care enough to take active steps to make sure WME gets less money. In other words, it tells them that you will follow through and that you're worth listening to. If everyone sends basically the same email, there's no point. Say what YOU think, just say it politely.

I know you guys all already know this, but just to be clear,

I AM NOT AN EMPLOYEE OF LEVEL 1 PRODUCTIONS. NEWSCHOOLERS.COM IS NOT AFFILIATED IN ANY WAY WITH LEVEL 1 PRODUCTIONS.

Don't want anyone to think this suggestion is being made for any reason other than I don't like what I've seen today, and I think this is the most effective and best overall way to go about dealing with that personal assessment of the situation. I can't speak for Doug or any of the other mods here, I know we all heart Level 1 and their movies and what they do for the sport, but this is just me talking. Just wanted to make sure that was clear.

I'd be lying if I said I would stop supporting Carona.

Also I'm pretty sure Skiing mag is owned by the same parent company as WME. So that would be a tough sponsorship to drop as i'm not sure they have much control over it? I'll send one to them anywho though

The only bad thing about going after the sponsors of their film tour is that we may deter those companies who have lots of money from investing in skiing in the future. It's fine to go after skiing, and colorado tourism, even naturevalley, since they're already heavily invested in skiing, but jeep and corona, maybe not. Let's make sure we don't burn any bridges trying to solve this problem.

Try and sound educated and professional in these emails kids. Corona isn't going to give two shits if you sound like a 14 year old rambling about how much warren miller sucks and how level 1 is amazing. Focus on the lawsuit and the poor taste that WME is leaving the skiing community with.

To whom it may concern,

It has recently come to my attention that Corona Extra is a sponsor of Warren Miller Entertainment, and that Warren Miller Entertainment has launch an frivolous law suit against Josh Berman and Level 1 Productions. This type of dispute in such a "tight-nit industry" is extremely bad for our sport as a whole. Being an avid supporter of both companies i have been crudely turned off by the suit that WME has launched against Level 1. Due to this outrageous suit i will no longer support WME, or and company/product that sponsors their films, products, or tours; a "boycott" if you will (Corona Extra). Furthermore i will be spreading the word of this travesty, by word of mouth to friends and family, and by spreading the news across internet forums/blogs like Newschoolers.com. I truly hope that something can be done about this debacle because not only is it is bad for business, but the out come could destroy Level 1, a relatively young company that has done so much for our sport.
