Heating/bending skis to give them a tuned up tail?

So say i bought a decently shitty old pair of skis, mounted them center and tuned up the tails. Aside from how they would ride (that doesn't matter yet), would it even be possible to do ? Would you go about this by heating then bending the tails up using vice grips etc. Input/experience much needed/appreciated thanks

i have a pair of carvers coming my way i was gonna mount em backwards so i could only ride switch but this would be a better idea. bump for answers

I've personally never tried it, but i think it would be nearly impossible since the cores of skis are wood, which wont bend very far without breaking. The only thing i could see being effective would be a long term heating around some kind of mold to slowly reform the wood, otherwise your cores are just gonna snap.

If they snapped, maybe I could set the tips up with some kind of extremely light bracing system no? another question: if the metal was heated up and bent, would it stay set in the new position and hold the broken wood there in that position too

Problem with using the edges as a frame is as soon as you landed on the skis or even got going at a decent speed the vibrations would knock everything loose. Maybe if you got some gnarly gorrila glue or something then got everything nice and snug with wax and laminate it would hold. If you do decide to try the brace or using the edges as a mold post some pics and let me know how it works.

my dad and brother have done it before, it works.
Heat gun, bend up from under a clamped pole a small amount, heat some more, slide the ski a titch, bend a little bit again.
Watch the heating, you can easily mess up the top sheet and definitely the base. When cooling the new tip will mellow out a little bit
we had an old powder mag that had rough directions, you could probably find more info deeper on ns or tgr

The way I did it was I put the skis on a table, put 3.5 inch pieces of wood underneath both tips of the ski, then clamped in front of and behind the bindings. Then tighten the clamps so they are down all the way (feels like the ski will break but it does not). Then leave the skis clamped for about 2 weeks, heating them every couple days.  After 2 weeks, take off the clamps and BOOM rockered skis. Obviously you can use larger pieces of wood underneath the tips if you want more rocker.  The amount of rocker when you take the skis out will be about 1/4th of what you had clamped. So if you were to use 4 inch pieces of wood underneath the tips and tails, you would have about 1 inch of rocker.

this guy doesnt know what hes talking about. during the summer there was a lot of people doing that just get them real hot, put the tips on a rock or something to keep the tips off the ground and then put something to keep the center of the ski on the ground. like a truck. people have done but after a while the ski bends back.
