Foam Pit

im looking to build a foam pit in my back yard. Also im looking to build a ramp into it but im having trouble finding foam to fill the pit and something to put on the ramp that will slide... if anyone has any ideas or webpages post it or email me

go to your local gymnastics center and ask them where they got all of their foam blocks for the pit. i am sure there is some big foam manufacturer or somthing...

i was thinking about that a while ago too. just go to a gymnastics place and ask where they got theirs. and for the jump. build it outta wood and then cover it with snow, unless its going to be a summer thing, maybe try astroturf,soap and water

im building one too .. started last sumemr finish this summer. we got 5 pole vaulting mats from my high school. they were throwing them out but not giving them to us so we took them. ghavent chopped them yet. go to the dump or sal;vation army and pick up old couches and cushins for the foam. good luck

take the 'egg-crate' foam, that is used for some beds. You can cut it up or leave it in huge chunks, whatever, it works great, but you get a lot of it. Good luck.

the foam isnt cheap....new it can me 8-12 dollars a pop
it is sweet to land in though
as for the ramp......the fake ice is the best...and also most expensive way to go
There's also plastic made for skiing on
Ive seen it on our local ski jumps for summer jumping...also popular in Brittain for year round skiing...this is really hard to get and very expensive
Its a sweet idea tho....good luck

Actually if you look in your Local Yellow Pages you will most likely find a Foam Store, they are quite frequent, and have all the foam you could ever ask for!

home depot has some stuff that people use in gardens, and what not, its called lattice, its sorta expensive, not too bad and if u just nailed that down to your ramp, it would slide pretty well, or you could use flexan, but i dunno where you get it

OK we actually have done this but with a trampoline instead of a ramp.
We got all of our foam from a upholstery store that redoes couches and stuff like that.
We got it all for free becuase it just costs them money to throw it out.
Our pit was about 12' X 6' and 4' deep. Worked well for what it cost.

i was goign to make one but i dug a fucking big hole for my tramp. In the summer we use water ramp 4 ft ramp and big hill we can boost like 10-15 up.

a large enough foam pit for a largish size ski jump is gonna set you back 10,000 dollars in foam alone

skiMT, if skiing isnt 'acutaly dangurous,' then why are people getting killed? sure, alot of it is stupidity but ever blown out a knee? knocked a disc out of alignment? punctured a lung? all serious injuries ive seen/heard/experienced skiing. if i had the money, id be down for a foam pit too.

Foam pit would be sweet, but it would have to be a bloody bit size wouldn't it. Jump into a lake so much less work and you don't have to worry about your foam getting rained on

i think landing in a foam pit on skis could hurt a lot cuz if you landed the trick dead on your skis might not sink into the foam like your body does becasue of the added surface area and you could eat it on your knees to you face pretty hard

You should go with the mcdonalds ball pit idea use the plastic balls and just wear a helmet and then you can hose it off rain snow etc. Five min of rain into foam pit=stinky ass mold pit.

instead of spending money buying foam, making a big pit and building a ramp; you could wait until it snows.Then jsut find a nice powder stash and build a big jump. if you crash, you will land with little pain, the natural way.
