Being Homesick

alright so I'm a freshman in college, been here just about a month. I've met some really awesome people and I'm having the time of my life. Getting to college made me realize that the people I hung out with in Highschool were just immature, petty, and mean. I really don't miss them all that much.

I don't really miss my family all that much. My parents got divorced when I was young so I'm used to going long stretches without seeing a parent or sibling.

However, the other night, I was stargazing with some of my friends, and something hit me: Stargazing in a city is fucking WEAK. I kept on remembering stargazing at my house in upstate New York and being able to see EVERYTHING. The milky way, every miniscule light that shone down, satellites, shooting stars etc. It got me thinking how I always took that for granted. Another thing I really miss are the mountains. I go to school in Central New York and it is COMPLETELY flat here. I miss being surrounded by hills.

So college NS population, do you miss home?

being in florida made me realize i love the cold weather, and love living in NY.
its like 100+ down here every day, in ny its like 50s, soo lucky. instead of the leaves changing they are still green with no hint of color. its shitty.

The things I moss about home are my friends but when I do go home they are not there becuase they are at college too. Its safe to say that my high scholl friends and our hang out time is over forever, I have moved past that becuase I have met alot of chill people around here. Im only about an hour from home so if I was homesick I could go home for an after noon or something.

btw Im going to NtripC in Saranac Lake if that makes you jealous.

i moved really far to go to college and it was hard to deal with for awhile but i adjusted but yeah sometimes i felt a little homesick. now its whatever i am all over the place, you get over it.

Yeah i know what you mean...since iv been at college i only get to ski when i go home for my winter and spring breaks, which is about 5 weeks of the year. sucks

Meh I used to live in montana, slc is a solid upgrade. But, im also on my third year here though. I know how you feel in a way, i actually am stoked on my old friends and then my parents moved when i went to college so no more family at home just friends. The first year i visited a ton cause its like 6 hours, but now over half of my tight friends are off abroad or going to school out of state so going back now isn't as important, but i still do.

Holy hell someone actually knows where cobleskill is!

And I miss it because where I'm going to school (Hobart aka BRObart) is the complete opposite of the environment that I have been brought up in. It's kind of weird not being woken up by some asshole revving his harley outside my window.

I grew up in bethlehem, not too far away from there.

And my room mate in plattsburgh was from middleburgh, which is probably worse than cobleskill. Instead of being woken up by a harley you get woken up by a 2 stroke dirtbike or a shotgun

no hate intended, but those "immature, petty, and mean. I really don't miss them all that much." people were your friends, just cuz they didn't go on to persue higher education doesn't make them lame, it makes you pretty lame for now looking back and judgeing them.

congrats on the 5000. And when I meant that I meant my graduating class. AKA people who are in college now. And what I mean by that is that they were/are so wrapped up in stupid shit that doesn't even matter. They were a bunch of drama queens and I'm kind of glad to be spending significantly less amount of time with them.

I'm in first year uni now, and I can honestly say I haven't felt homesick at all. Parents divorced this past year so home isn't really "home" any more. So this place is just as much home as back where I have lived the past 17 years of my life. And it's way more fun.

And people are much more respectable here than my hometown. Back where I come from everyone is into all the mainstream stuff, trying to be all the same, follow every trend. Either that or they're hick farmers trying to look rad because they wear flannel and shoot guns. No creativity, or any opinions that are their own. Don't miss those people. Funny thing is that all the people and friends who I respected at my high school are all going to post-secondary outside of that town. And like 50 of those people came to the same uni that I'm at. Rad rad rad.

I was about that way when I came back from Philmont, New Mexico. We hiked the mountains and such for about 2 weeks before coming back home to Iowa. I miss the mountians and the stargazing out there very much, which is why I might work there next summer.
