Mounting Point on Symmetrical Skis....

Tell me what ski it is and i will explain. or atleast try to.  You need to be specific.

How about the Volkl Wall to start with.

Just because they say that it has all mountain abilities doesn't mean they don't want it centered. The wall has two mountain points, but have you skied them centered? they kill it all mountain. I've honestly never skied them mounted back, but I'm sure they ski OK but the preferred spot is def center. All mounting them forward does is make them a bit more twitchy at speed, but really quick turning, whats to complain about? (unless you like really gs style skis.)

I have no problem with any symmetrical ski staying symmetrical regardless of application.

I'm sure it would be fine either way companies have told me that before and everything has worked out.

The Wall kills it all mountain when center mounted because it's symmetrical, it has nothing to do with the mounting point. All they are saying is that the ski is good all-mountain too, not just park, they're not trying to tell you were to mount the skis.

I couldn't agree with you more that the Wall kills it mounted center even as an all-mountain ski. It skis the best in that position and if you are going to advertise it as a symmetrical ski then it should be mounted at center, that was my arguement. I was told that because I said the ski was symmetrical and that it should be center mounted that I was not allowing the ski to be mounted in an "all-mountain" position. I feel this statement was false as I have skied them in both positions and the Wall skis much better mounted in the position it was designed for and that was center. When it was mounted back from center it was less than ok, it really did not ski that well as the binding was not in the sweet spot of the ski. Just seems like if it is a symmetrical design and a symmetrical sidecut then the mounting position should be in the center of the ski, not further back.

hahaha center is the only mounting spot on symetrical skis! it will fuck up the design if you mount anywhere else

What I am saying is that Volkl is putting multiple mounting points on their ski saying that you DO NOT need to mount it center. I feel that if it is a symmetrical ski and you are advertising it as a symmetrical ski then shouldn't the ski be mounted center? That is where the ski is going to ski the best from all the testing I have done with symmetrical skis. I don't know of another company that has a symmetrical ski that suggests mounting the ski anywhere else other than center. Do you?

Correct Answer!! My point excatly! It skis best all mountain when mounted center as it is a symmetrical design and if mounted anywhere else it no longer is symmetrical it my as well be a directional ski. I know the mounting point on the ski I am telling you what was told to me by them about how you can mount it back for all-mountain, but that just screws up the sidecut of the ski and it does not ski that great at all.

no need to worry about it, i know a few people that mounted their anthems a few centimeters back from center. The theory is if you are mounted centered, and are carving hard and in the front of the boot, you will actually be too far forward over the sidecut to use it properly. If mounted a few cm's back, when carving hard forward you would actually be right over the center of the sidecut, thus using it "properly". Granted, those skiers usually arent using them solely as a park ski, so it doesnt make too much of a difference. Most park skiers when lapping a jump line are in a balanced, neutral stance, therefore using the sidecut how it was designed to be used. All Volkl is doing is providing a line for those skiers who would consider mounting a few cm's back, and saying "hey, if you want to, here's where you should mount". Yes, they could just get a directional ski, but its all about preference. Volkl is just accommodating for the diversity of skiers and mounting preferences, no big deal at all.

Ski companies are gonna say that their skis are all mountain even if they aren't cause idiots will believe it.

It's pretty damn hard to control a symmetrical park ski at high speed, steep incline, and variable conditions.  I've tried it, it sucks, and even stiffer skis like this will give way when you are trying to ski harder.  Skiing groomers is not all mountain.

haha who told you that? theres some doucher snowboarder who was at my local shop (at the time i didnt know he was a boarder) i asked how do these skis ride pointing out a pair of volkl's, not walls i think they were ledges. he replies to me this is the best park ski volkl makes good symmetrical ski. i was like what the hell your no help i already know im a better skier and most likely in the future a better employee.

im going to be riding centermounted anthems as pretty much all mountain skis this winter

this guy speaks the truth.  if you are going to be truly pressuring your ski like you are supposed to when you are carving you will be over the dead center line even if you mounted a few cm back.  also when you mount a ski center and are really pressuring it the tail can have a tendancy to come up which would be why some might like them further back.  i center mounted some karmas which are stiff as hell and when i would flex into the front like i would be when i am carving the tails would come off the snow.  i then had them remounted closer to the freeride spot which was about 7cm back and they skied a hell of a lot better forward as well as switch.

so basically when you say it is ruining the ski to mount it anywhere else its not really true.  everyone wants something different for their needs. 

it is no different than mounted a non symmetric ski center.  when you say volkl put all this testing into that certain spot that is the exact same thing with every other ski on the market but people disregard that and will mount stuff 7+ cm infront of recommended based on what they want, yeah it might make the ski perform like shit to some people but for others it is exactly what they want.
