A few questions about head units...

So im looking into buy a head unit for my 2000 honda prelude, partially so i can listen to my ipod, and partially for better sound quality. Is there any specific type of head unit that the car cant take? Do the number of channels matter? Is the installation easy or will i have to go somehwere to get it done? I was just looking for a cheap head unit and have no idea about them at all.

At Best Buy they will usually give you free installation if you spend $100, and they'll run a cable for your ipod through to your glove box.  Most head units should fit in your car.  Cool car BTW, I really wanted to put the engine out of that into my old civic but ended up selling it.

For one, I'm pretty sure changing the head unit without doing speakers or an amp or subs won't do a whole lot to improve your sound quality.

But as for making sure it's compatible, every head unit is compatible. Seeing as it's a double din you're either going to need to get a double din head unit, or a spacer kit. The spacer kid is what makes it fit right and whatnot, and make sure you get the right wiring harness for your car.

They're pretty easy to put in, about an hour but it really depends on the car. Some cars you can just pop off one piece of plasitc and take out two screws, others you have to take out the whole dash.

Not too familiar with the channel thing, but I'm sure other people know about it

Try googleing it, there are TONS of car forums out there that will know a lot more than us.

My friend blew up the stock engine in his 93 civic and did the h23 swap. It was so fast after that. about 180 HP at the wheels. Pretty good seeing as Civics are like 110 stock.

yeah man i love my car. its so damn quick, im pulling about 195 hp.

Doing a STi swap in my WRX soon plus upgrades, going for 350 at the wheels haha I can't wait will be so epic.

Look up a haynes manual on getting out your head unit, it is really pretty easy. After that you will just unplug your old head unit and plug the new wiring harness in. You might have to splice wires together from the new wiring harness to the wires for the headunit.

Channels usually refer more to amps than head units. Your head unit for 4 speakers will have to be 4 channel for the full stereo sound. You can sometimes get more power out of a 4 channel amp by bridging two of the channels, thus making it a 2 channel amp.

Yeah I wanted to do an H22 into a 97 civic.  Once upon a time I had a 93 Del Sol I wanted to do it with too, but I actually got really close to doing the civic one. Hmotorsonline is in LA so you can just go pick up full swaps from them for like 2 G's
