Roommate move out notice

What do you think is fair notice to move out.  One of my roommates after asking him several times  if he is moving out just told me he is moving out at the end of the month.   So basically i am pissed at him for giving us so little notice about moving out.  I am pretty sure he has not told the property mangement company yet either.  Do you think it is fair to ask him to still pay for october since he gave so little notice to replace him.

Its usually stipulated in most leases that tenants have to give 30 days notice...

can he do that legally? i think he may be legally expected to let you guys know a certain time period beforehand so he's not fucking you/other roommates over financially.

well, atleast its stipulated in my renting contract that i have to inform the landlord if i am to move out.

said best. Look over the lease. If it says 30 days then charge him for the rest of the month then what ever takes you into October. So, if he told you with a 10 day notice, you should charge him for 20 days of October. But if you fill the room before that then you stop the proration at that day you get the room filled. Be cool about it or he will just run and not pay. Thats what I would do.

I am most likely moving out at the end of October so I am going to call the property management company tomorrow to get this straighten out.  It is frustrating because I told my roommates as soon as I got a job interview in mammoth that I might move out and told them I would let them know for sure if I am going to stay by the end of the month.  Then he just informed me that he is moving out at the end of this month when I trying to handle things properly for next month.  I may not even know if I have a job or not but have to make a decision and then he has the audacity to try and pull this crap when he already knew he had a job and just wanted to leave himself a safety net in case he did not get the apartment he applied for at the beginning of the month and did not tell me.
