Mount Washington

I noticed that Mt.Washington has a chance of gettin some snow this week which is sorta exciting for an east coast skier,winters coming and im sure everyones stoked

Sounds sick. Resorts are going to start opening in like 2 months, but maybe earlier if it's a snowy season.

I live in upstate NY and I can already see the leaves changing.

Today was the first day that I actually had to wear a fleece. I'm super stoked for winter.

same here and im thinkin this season might be a good one becuase i think mt.washingtin did not get snow til the10th of october last year and the weather says snow showers this friday so im even more stoked

My Grandparents were telling me about a blizzard on Mount Washington in the middle of summer, so it doesn't surprise me. It's been cold the past few nights up there, and I've been hiking in early up there with snow. Also, there was one Columbus day weekend where Wildcat mountain got hit with 2 plus feet, so this isn't too remarkable, as Mount Washington has some of the worst weather on the planet.

gotta love mt. W. Anyone of you guys ever hike it when it still has powder (like feb-march) and ski it? I think Meatheads did, and i want to try going up there and doing that.

they got avies and shit up there. read in the newspaper that some guys got wrecked up there last winter. I wasn to go do it though, looks so sick!

I live like 30 minutes from Mount W. i've hiked it twice in the off-season.

Most people that go for it during the winter with intentions of skiing hit up Tuckerman's Ravine.

oh yea tucks is clearly where its at. Its such a fun hike in the offseason and im itching to hit it up in the winter and spring.

yea the skiing wound be legit till at least late october but that would be a dope idea everyone should watch the weather there you never know they could get a major snow anytime after about october 15

Yeah. Late April or May should be our best bet for nice weather.

Saw this thread, thought I would give some insight.

Late April is time to go. I've done tucks a few times usually in late April when the avi conditions are reasonable enough to expect nothing much except falling ice, and not too late to have complete slush or lack of all snow thereof. watch the reports though to decide when to go. Expect a two hour hike to base of tucks without a touring set up, and another 45 minutes up Tuckermines.

Also skied trees all winter up there. Good tree skiing for the east.

I think my dad has crampons. I have winter camping, and normal camping experience, but not at Mt. Washington. I did a 9 day backcountry ski expedition in CO last year and did two expeditions in the canyons. I have a 0 degree sleeping bag too. I pretty much have all the gear I need, I just don't know the area well.

I'll ask my dad about it, apparently there's a thing called the cog rail that you can hike up. My dad's hiked to Tucks tons of times, so I can get a good amount of info from him on that.

I snowshoed Mt Pierce a week ago and it was amazing.  I don't think I've ever seen so much snow in the east.  Easily 2.5 feet of the lightest blower you can find, and it was a week after the big storm.  reminded me of interior BC with pine trees just cloaked in snow.  Unfortuneatley, my camera froze, so I didn't get many shots out of the trip.  Really windy even on a relatively calm day.  oh, and for the OP, I'd love to go in a year.  Surgery this spring, so obviously can't make it.  I'll be 18 and coming from Concord NH.  Get a big enough gathering and make it front page

you can snowshoe but you can't ski? At least you can get out there..!

2.5 feet, thats not bad. Come to CNY on the right year (thats not this year) and we've had up to 4 feet at one time. And in drifts, more sometimes. Thanks lake ontario!
