I've never set foot on a snowboard. Why I'd want to bruise my ass and wreck my knees learning a new sport when there's no way it can be better than skiing, I don't know. Seems like a waste of time and money to learn it, too... you can only do one at a time, and I'd rather be skiing at every opportunity. Guess it's a choice you make when you start... I didn't even know what a snowboard was when I started skiing (and they weren't twin tipped, as far as I remember).

I've always skied, I tried snowboarding once last season when my concepts were in the shop and I didn't feel like busting out the bump skis. since then I still snowboard on occassion usually when my skis are fucked up.

I’ve skied for about 18 years, boarded for 15. Back in the day (mid ‘90s) I switched from skiing with a little boarding to boarding with a little skiing. Kept it that way until 1.5 years ago. Now I am even-stephen, half and half. I actually teach park riding on both. I am still just a little better on my board though. You have to do it all, cause it’s all fun.

I'm sixteen, and I've been skiing for fourteen years, so when I tried boarding for a lesson four years ago I couldn't get the whole 'not facing downhill' thing through my brain. I'm really glad I sucked, because at the time I only raced, and had no idea what newschool was, so I probably would have become a poser if I got the hang of it....

i tried snowboarding when i was 7 or 8 on the original banana board.....took me half an hour to get down the bunny hill, and i could already ski just fine, so i became the only kid to NOT switch from skiing to snowboarding.....since then (that was like 15 years ago) all but one of the kids that i'm still in touch with switched back to skiing. damn sheep

i used to skiboard..my friend switched from skis to skiboards now..this morning he couldnt do the flat rails..by the end of the day he was cleaning up the a frame and the trap rail....ive never seen anyone go from nothing to doing trap rails...he held his own today

uh my friend is a nsowbaorder but he kindof sucked so we got him to start skiing. On his 5th day out, he can slide a reasonable sized kink rail (over 20 feet I think). Do 3s and 180s and stuff. And we try to teach him how to turn and shit better on the way down and from the park. Pretty sick, he just needs to work on stability and style now.

As a young lad i began on skis. I spent my time on it, got relativly proficent. But this was the mid ninties and skiing had become rather stale. I needed something fresh. Snowboarding offered that. It was a completly different way to get down a hill. And for those of you who know what it's like skiing the same Ontario hill over and over again, you'll understand why I wanted change. It was a violent transition. In first few attempts, no one is smooth on a snowboard. But soon enough i was able to take any hill on my board, even becoming fearless in the park. But one fateful year i outgrew my snowboard boots. I had a pair of skiboards i used on days i wasn't feeling like going one plank. So for the remainder of the season i used my Salomon 99.9cm Snowblades. What a change of pace, i had more energy that i ever had on my skis, but more importantly, i felt more liberated than i ever had on the snowboard. I kept with this for a while but then demoed some skis. They were a thousand time more stable, and they didn't have any of the terrifying moment before death feeling the ski boards had. But i still wanted to have fun in the park.
Enter X-Games big air. These guys were doing things on skis i couldn't even think of. And how were they landing backwards? I knew this was the way to go. Now i'm on skis every chance i get. But i do pay hommage to the time i spent on the snowboard. It made me realize how kick ass skiing truly was.

I got my hardcore snowboarder friend to switch over after he saw 4FRNTs and Armadas in real life, and RFA and 1242. Now hes buying Armada AR5s and I'm gonna teach him how to ride park. He used to ski when he was little, so I'll help him do better n shit.
