Tie-dying a backpack

alright so heres the deal. i hear tie-dye is in this year. my backpack is totally black, so i want to bleach it then tie-dye it. will it work? how white can i get it?

what color is the bag, and youll need to know what kind of fabric the bag is and if there exists dye for that fabric. i'm not entirely sure you can dye nylon.

its going to be hard to bleach your backpack uniformly and its probably a water resistant fabric which will make it even more difficult. If you'v got your heart set on doing in maybe start with a white one and wash it a few times before hand. I just don't really see it working out though...sorry for the wierd font ittalics is stuck on

yeah i have no idea what kind of fabric it is. but the bag is black, and has a a tiny bit of dark camo, but it'd very hard to see.

on a different note, anyone know where i can get a vocal verson of a song (so i can put it to a new beat)?

most bags are made out of nylon, and most water repellent fabrics also lose their resistance to water after long term use inwet conditions or washing, aside from that. it'll probably be nearly impossible to bleach it white like you'd want and then to dye it how you want. but you could always try doing the tie dying with the bleach instead of colors to get the same effect, which is kind of trendy too. if you want to see how itll react, wet a small part of the bag if u can and just bleach it there to see if itll change or not, then youll know, and you could probably google some tips or i guess pm me...anyways. enjoy.

What about using RIT dye? It wouldn't work quite the same but if you worked at it, you could do a decent fake tyedye job.

so Ive experimented with this before a number of times. my experience with nylon is that it is pretty colorfast, meaning bleaching it will just make it smell terribly like bleach for weeks.

The results of bleaching pretty much any black fabric depends entirely on what color the fabric was before it was black. When companies dye fabrics black they take all their reject colors that are just a bit off what they are supposed to look like and throw them into the black vat. I've had jet black fabrics turn blue, red, pink, green and yellow when i put them into bleach.

also be careful because if you leave it in too long even diluted beach will actually eat holes in some fabrics. also keep in mind it sometimes takes at least 40. mins. for results to show up so you wont see it happen immediately (most likely).

thanks!! im going to do a little test in a small part of my backpack soon. i have no idea how to tie-dye so i'll probably pay someone to do it.

i have no respect for you, or any others who jump on something so shamelessly just because you heard it is "in" this year. you are making a fool of yourself, but go ahead and flock sheep, flock! people will think you are the coolest until you tell them "oh, i dont even know how to do this. I heard it was in this year so i had someone do it for me." i cant even begin to express my discontent. Rowen is making this very difficult. im an angry gumball!

tie-due is easy all you need is right kind of dyes alot of rubberbands maybe a few marbles and just go nuts

i'll give you some bad advice and suggest chlorine for bleaching, basically youll want to make a super agressive variant of poolwater, lots of chlorine in it, then drop your backpack in it and off you go....

i've once dropped a bit of chlorine on my jeans and immediately washed it off, but it was too late, two big white cum-like spots on my jeans now :(

oh and why this is bad advice?
Chlorine is a really dangerous chemical, so do it outside, wear a decent mask, goggles, good gloves, not just latex, real rubber ones, etc....

Black doesn't bleach to white. You're better off finding a white backpack with a high percentage of cotton and tie-dying that. I just don't see the process going like you're envisioning it the other way.

Mine has gotten wet many times and is fine but you can always just get some waterproofer and wash it with it

im not hating on someone saying, hey this is cool, i would like to own one of those things in that style. im hating on someone who is saying, i hear this is cool this year and i want to be cool too but i dont know how to be cool so can i pay someone to make me cool? next year something else will be cool and the sheep will follow right along. maybe i would take this a little more seriously if this wasnt such a cry for attention. maybe i feel this way because i like to tie dye, but not because its "in" or because i want to be cool, when i see shit like this i can't help but scoff at it because i feel its a slap in the face to me and pandora. up there and even you... thats just how i feel so dont tell me i need to chill out for speaking my opinion.
