Replying to Carving off lips of jumps....

Ok, this is gonna sound like a dumbass question by why is it when I hear someone is said to be good and then they go off and say they 'carve' off jumps to spin? Does this make them better or something then if they don't off the lip to spin? I just don't see the difference. I know its a stupid and everyone is gonna bitch at me for asking but seriously you get more style points for being able to carve a 900 then to just spin it normally? Im confused, someone fill me in here. peace
