It has come to my attention recently as I went through my daily syringe of newschoolers and meaningless snow reports, that I have become completely infatuated with skiing and it's whole aura of addictiveness. As I came home from school, I popped in Forward and sat down for a nice release in the professional skiing form. As the shots rolled on, I connected that I had probably watched this movie, and about five other movies that were received in the last few months, over 100 times each. When I get to school in the morning I walk into the library, which has the ever-desired high-speed internet, and I drool over US open coverage and miles of comments on a forum full of ceaseless addicts. I am part of a community that is completely enveloped in the passion that we all share and love. I am not saying that I am going to change, but it seems I have come to a painful realization of reality, much like telling yourself that youre an alcoholic or something like that. But then I find that without skiing and newschoolers.com, and every movie Ive ever owned, I would have a life full of shitty weekends, highschool drama and probably dreaded sports and boasting the latest weight you've put up. This is a life that I would never want, and would never realize I had if I hadn't come this way. I am glad that I am obsessed with skiing and the whole society behind it, because without it I would just be the nest Joe on the streets, looking toward a future of normalcy and monotony. I know there are others who are like me, because everyday I see the same names in the Forum out of 30 something thousand people. I know I have contributed to something becasue of this place, and because I decided to ski and not snowboard when it was the cool thing to do a few years ago. Although there is a point to this, I am not sure of it, rather just satisfied with my position and I hope you feel that way too.

HOW I GOT INTO SKIING: I have been skiing since I was about six. my parents ppushed me to join a ski club when I was about 11 which main focus was fun, but basicly lead into racing. I quit the program the next season, and tryed snwoboarding. I was good at snowboarding but I would always feel twisted and uncomfortable. So I decided to stick with skiing. Then in grd 8 (about 2 years later) I joined a new freestyle club. I learned how to jump but was defintly not very good and didnt have much of a drive, but at the same time it gave me something to do on the weekends with a tough time I was going threw at my school. Later that season I quit my school and started homeschooling. I ddint really have much of anything, and didnt want to do do anything with my life.
Then around march i was reading a powder mag i picked up and was looking at a ski movie review. I decided to order ski movie 2 to see what it was all about. When the movie arrived It completely changed my perspective on skiing and I wanted to get good fast. But by this time it was late march and skiing was coming to an end. I started to get into skiing obsessivley and ordered PBP movies and watched ski movies all sumer. ; I couldnt get enough.
I literally WAITED for skiing that season. ever since i keep waiting and remain as obsessed to this day.

Its winter, the birds have all flown south, all but one. One little bird that waited too long. As it flew to catch it's buddies it got icicles on its wings and fell to the ground. The bird then saw a nice looking branch at the top of a nearby tree and it said to a nearby cow, 'I want to reach that top branch but I don’t have then energy to fly up, can you help?' The cow said, 'Here, eat some of my poop it'll fuel you to climb up the tree.' The little bird said, 'Thanks!' and had some of the cow poop. The bird flew up to the first branch of the tree and rested, then the next day flew to the next branch, until finally the bird reached the top branch. Then the farmer came out with a shotgun...
The moral of the story is, bullshit may get you to the top, but it wont keep you there.

I was talking to my school counselor about bad grades and she asked, 'so what, besides school do you do?' I said skiing, its my life she then asked what if i cant ski, or if im not skiing.
i told her the truth, 'i watch skiing videos' and she really thaught i was a crazy kid

Sorry, didn't take the time to read everything but it aint an obsession man, it's your life. i've been the same way forever. What you need to realize now is that the only way you're gonna be happy in life is if you're working in the ski industry... check.

I agree completely. I just can't believe that there are so many other people out there that really don't have a passion for anything. It's sad really to see all the people who just go through the motions of life and never experience the feeling of truely be obsessed with something. I feel blessed to have skiing in my life and having something so fun that I think about everyday.

whenever i ride down the mnt. whether its icy, crud, powder, etc. i have a giant grin on my face.. why? i can't explain it but it is the best feeling in the world and i wouldn't change it for anything. from the age of 4 i fell in love! my mom would force me to go to church sun. mornings and i would cry because i wouldn't get to ski.. eventually i convinced her to take me at night. during my 9th grade year in high school i was so obsessed i went up almost every single day after school and all day long on the weekends.. when i got in an accident and was in a wheel chair, i was out for a good seven months and i became depressed and was put on pills.. i couldn't imagine my life without skiing.. i just don't know what i would do!

Yea i deffiniately schedule everything in my life around skiing. I've quit jobs because they scheduled me all sat and sun. It's all I think about when im in school or working too. And I've also have had friends (only the chicks i find my guy friends understand more or dont care as much) get pissed at me cause I ' spend way too much time at the hill' But unlike lots of the posts were they say they dont have many friends cuz of it or go out drinkin cuz skiing, i got lucky i guess, most of my city skis or boards and frequents the hill atleast everyonce and awhile, so pretty much all my friends ski or board, which makes for cool after night skiing parties, which usually have some type of jib or jump set up.
But yea i guess thats my rant; just doing my part to add to the addictions

This thread is legit. Had to bring it back.
As weird as it sounds, I absolutley hate that I LOVE skiing. It completely fucks up my grades. Now that I'm going in to high school, and stuff starts counting towards college, it scares me because I know I'm going to have to pick up my grades, and if I don't... I don't know how I'm going to get into a good college, get a good job, and have enough money for skiing in the future. That's almost impossible with my obsession with skiing. It scares me.
Yes. I am dangerously obsessed with skiing. I sit in class and doodle skiing (which my grades suffer dramatically for), and most of the music I like is from ski videos and movies, mostly because it gets me excited for skiing.
Boy, summer is gonna be hell.
