Coniferous forest

this is a long shot but I already hate my soil science class and I need to know why conifers (pine trees) don't like to grow in prairie/grassland soils.  Thanks eh

The soils for coniferous trees is much more acidic because the needles are acidic. It also has a different amount of the top bit. Can't remember what that's called at the moment but... Yeah. Maybe check your textbook or wiki as well.

grassland soil is usually basic. pine trees tend to grow in more acidic soil. proof: have you ever bit into a pine needle? the taste is tart like citrus.
