i've had a gl2 for a few years and i'm looking to upgrade. I've heard good and bad about the fx7.  Can anyone who has used one, or owns one give me some thoughts on it.  I know it doesnt have xlr ports but i never really used them on my gl2 anyways.  I also have a dvx-100a to film with but its currently out of commission.

ps. yea i used the search bar, but the threads were old and i wanted some more up to date opinions

my budget isn't alot. i'm selling my gl2 but ill be lucky if i get 1000 of it.  i'd say like 2500 tops

FX7 is HD & 3Cmos, but is a really old model, and wasn't really that great when it first came out. Save up a bit more and get a camera with 60p.

maybe look into panasonic's new hmc40? I haven't heard much about it yet but it would most likely fit your price range. Panasonic is usually on point with their cameras as well. I'd say do some research first though.

Look into the Canon XHA1, Panasonic HMC150 (used maybe?), or the Panasonic HMC40 (limitations such as audio).

yea i know i ment to say dvx.  and yea, i really want to go progressive. i've been looking at the xh a1 but anouther 1.5k is alot of money

I have the XHA1, and it really is a great camera. I've used a lot of the prosumer cams, such as the DVX, GL2, XL2, HMC150, HPX170, XHA1, 5DMKII, FX1, HD1000U, PD170, Z5, EX3, ect. and what I've noticed is that Sony cameras tend to work pretty well on auto, whereas canon and panasonic cams take some tweaking to look right. So, depending on how meticulously you like to set up your shots, the right camera for you may vary. While people say "its the filmmaker not the camera," there is no perfect camera, and you just have to read into the different models and decide which one meets your needs best within your price range.

get the hmc 40, id be interested in hearing what you have to say about it. for 2k it looks dope and the new final cut integration...wowzers

damn dude that hmc40 looks so dope for the price but have you guys ever edited with the avchd codex. that shit requires a super computer just to run a preview.  I used a canon hdd cam for some of charlie owens super unknown and that shit sucked trying to edit.   Other than the fact that i dont think i will be able to edit it, that camera looks like a great deal.    1080 30p at 24 mbps bitrate sounds pretty sweet tho
