so i watched head for the hills recently for the like the tenth time and i am really interested in making some fat buttery skis out of snowboards like the redneck rippers. i would mount alpine binders on em but i have a couple of questions. first has anyone done this? secondly how hard is it gonna be to find long snowboards in the 165-170 range for cheap? thirdly my friend mounts skis and he was wondering how hard it would be to mount bindings on something so thin. and finally if i dont have edges but just the wood/ptex sidewall since i would cut each ski out of the middle would these be impossible on groomed runs. the skis would be primarily for backyard/snowdays not really sure if i would take em to a resort. but anyways i think this would be wicked fun to make and ride. I would make them lizzie type dimensions if that helps any inspiration or help gets +k
It will be considerably weakened by being cut down the middle. it designed to support the weight with the whole thing, not a jerry rigged cut in half deck that is half the height of an actual ski. its simple physics.
im not sure what your talking about i would take one snowboard and trim down the sides to make it skinnier and form one ski. then i would repeat the process with a diff board to make the second. plus only half your weight i believe would be on each board so i think it would work.
It will fall apart. I mean go for it and waste your money, but in all honesty, its a stupid idea. They will be no sidewalls. I could not think of a more inane waste of time. Maybe instead, you should learn to 'read good'
Also, you live in maryland. What the fuck are you going to do with two fucked up snowboards the size of lizzies that will be litterally falling apart. The skiing in south west pa is literally the worst on the east coast.
