Importing/Capturing widescreen footage. HELPP!!! +k

So i decided to experiment with my camera, and film widescreen today. I capture my footage with a separate camera then i film with to preserve the life of my other camera. All the footage shows up widescreen when i'm playing back on my capture cam, but when I import it (into final cut pro) it just smashes it into a square so it looks weird.

so my question is, how do i capture the widescreen footage? is it a setting i need to change on my capture cam, or a setting i need to change on FCP?

anyone know how to do this? any help will be GREATLY appreciated!! + karma as well

well yuou have to change the sequence settings to fit the settings onf the clip...16x9 or what ever. also the capture settings have to be changed...that is done when you click command+8 then like settings or something. hope that helps

alright weeeeird i tryed importing again and it captured fine before i even changed anything...?

haha, but i got into sequence settings, and if something goes wrong i think i could definately fix it in there

try manually adjusting the aspect ratio under "motion" in the viewer, then "distort" and then you can play around with the aspect ratio until that helps.. mabey i read your post wrong but w/e
