New Headphones

Hi NS, I'm looking for some new headphones for the year. Here is my criteria, I want great sound quality that is the number 1 I don't care how they look I just want the best sound quality. I'm not looking for anything over $250 as that is way to much to pay for headphones.

Yeah +K for help and opinions, what should I get, links are appreciated.

Yeah probably not skullcandy, I've had them in the  past and they just kind of fell apart.
Best quality for $250  or lower basically.

I use Sennhaiser cans only. I love the sound.

CX300B's for skiing
HD465's in my house

You will find it very difficult though to find what you enjoy most based on other users responses. Some cans (headphones) have a flatter response chart, or some can be a little too bassy. Or some might not sound lively in the midrange at all, or just be way too tingy in the treble for your ears.

I'm thinking the bose around ear they're only 125

Anyone know of some that will have better quality, because I'm down with paying more than 125 for better ones.

Bose tend to be overpriced, as you are paying for the name. As said above, Sennheiser is a great brand. I just got HD280 Pros and I'm loving them. Only like 80 on Amazon too.

V-modas are dirttyyyyy
such good sound and base. unfortunately the wire on mine v-moda vibes broke, and i replaced it free. then they broke again, and not only did they replace it, but they gave me the new, Vibe 2, which is better.

Skullcandies blowwwwww hard, they look cool but they don't have good sound and were so flimsy. Thanks for all of the suggestions, anyone else?

Actual headphones, I just moved into a new apartment with my girlfriend and I don't want my neighbors/girlfriend  to hate  me so I sold my speakers and I'm looking for headphones that can give me some quality sound because they will basically be my speakers.

Legit brands that I like are Sennheiser and Grado. You probably want a closed headphone, so you are going to have to go with Sennhesiser. As said above, the HD280 is a great headphone. Anything better than those and you need an amp. I think you should get an amp anyway.

amazing cans, and they are built to last. Ive had mine for over 5 years and they are still going strong. they are classic, and have sound that just destroys.

Their ok. Better than skullcandy for sure but not worth the price. Many heaphones are better than nixon for the same price. Try Klipsh image s4. Its like $80 and sounds better than some $200 shure heaphones i used to have. Ear peices feel kinda funky in your ear at first but they sound fantastic.

i got these sennheisers for $50, they sound almost as good as the Dre Beats i tried.

bose and beats are going to be more then 250. I suggest sennheiser, they have a nice crisp sound and a pretty damn solid base depending on the model you get. good luck

noticed you said you are replacing your speakers.

I have a similar thing in my room.. I have surround sound.. which is dope.. and skullcandy SK Pros... I don't really recommend skullcandy. They are dope.. but they just started sounding phony 2 days ago.. so i will send them in and get new ones.. yay skullcandy, although it does get tiring after 3 pairs.

anyways the point i was going to make.. is you will not feel the bass anymore.. sounds weird, but the bass from your speakers is felt all over your body, and you just don't get that from your headphones.

I guess i realize cuz at 9 my parents go to sleep and so i switch to my headphones, and you immediately feel the difference.

also my skullcandy story.. I have broken, 1 pair of FMJs, one pair of heshs, one pair of icons, one pair of little buds, ink'd buds i think, and now my sk pros are starting to be funny. basically their warranty system owns, and they have replaced everything. But DO NOT fall in love with your limited edition icons, because they will break and skullcandy will not replace them.

seriously guys, he asks for headphones with the best sound for his budget; he doesn't care about the look and you're still talking bout skullcandy?!

skullcandy = cool looks not cool sound


So far what has been mentioned sennheiser and JVC make real quality headphones but i'm fairly sure that for 250dollar you're just in the price range for a beyer dynamics DT 770
and really, these headphones have better sound quality then some recording studios headphones; if you have a trained ear you can even hear the flaws on professional recordings; by example a squeeking chair or coughing in the background, it's quite scary what you can hear through these babies...

if you're really a music person who enjoys listening a lot and has an ear for detail and can appreciate this; go for a beyer dynamics; every other headphone you'll wear after wearing a beyer dynamics will sound like crap....
if you have a trained ear you can even hear the flaws on professional recordings; by example a squeeking chair or coughing in the background, it's quite scary what you can hear through these babies...

i know in the shop they're priced 300 dollar but i've seen them going out for around 200; so if you can find a pair; don't hesitate!


good luck and don't let anyone tell you otherwise untill they themselves have tried a pair of beyer dynamics....

Thanks for all the input guys it's really helped. I like that pair above^ as well as the sennhaiser's and will definitely be looking around for both when I'm shopping for them online and in stores. This is a pretty big investment just for one aspect of my music listening and I want to get it right. I've had skullcandies in the past and they are terrible, not worth the money, the sound was okay for about 3 months then the bass faded and then the cords broke on me so ekkkk on  skullcandy. I'm seriously considering these Grado 225's as well I really like what I've heard about them and they look classy as hell.

Are you going to be taking them on the mountain?

The Grados are open backed , if you ski with them the airflow will ruin the drivers. HTH

Yeah I use buds for the mountain because I like  to where a can on my head and big headphones don't really work with helmets. Would it also ruin them if I wore them while I biked?

I go really fast usually 20-30 mph, my bike is my only form of transportation. Thanks for the heads up though I probably would have ruined them in a few days.

I love my grados, they are amazing, that being said, I hate my grados, the only time I can really enjoy them is when im in complete isolation, the open ear design picks up EVERY background sound.

beyers are amazing, same with ultrasone
