Dalbello il moro ID or krypton pro ID? help a bro out.

before you annihilate me and i get thirty replies that all say "go to a boot fitter", i did. i have narrow feet, i like both of them, in 25.5. neither of them give me any painful pressure points and fit great. i tour, ski slackcountry, trying to get into a lot more park (because i suck cock at it), and am an instructor all winter when i'm not at school. i know that the difference on paper are:

-Gold Intuition liner in the pro, Silver Intuition liner in the il moro (gold is denser = stiffer)
-2 buckles and a dynalink closure in the pro, 1 buckle and a dynalink in the il moro
-traditional power strap in the pro, ratchet strap in il moro
-pro comes with stiff and medium tongue, il moro comes with soft and medium

has anybody actually skiied them and has useful feedback to help my buying decision? right now i can get them for equal prices, so cost isn't a concern. also does anybody know if theres any way to get a stiff tongue from dalbello to throw on the il moro, or if you can somehow rig a booster strap on the il moro? thanks, sorry for the really long intro.

i have had the il moro and the rampage. the rampage and the pro are fairly similar, i prefer the il moro because they are more adjustable and the top ratcheting system is so precise, you can really dial in the performance.

thanks for the reply, how did your il moros perform when you were charging hard or in tight glades? and do you think a booster strap would fit on them or does the ratchet get the job done? thanks man, sorry for all the questions. desperate here.

My shop is getting Dalbello in this year and I am stoked, I have only heard good things about the boots and I can't wait to try them on.

No way to get a booster on Il Moros..unless maby you removed the slap wratched buckle.  I had Il Moros and they were fine..I wish I had Kryptons though.  I think that the normal buckle and power strap would have worked either the same or a bit better, and I only used the medium tongue, so having the stiff would have been nice.  Asking how a boot does in glades is wierd...I have no idea what you mean by that...  Oh, and if you don't have a medium or high instep, you will have arch pain.  I recommend SOLE footbeds, which should go in the liner before molding.  Oh, and I didn't like touring at all in Il Moros..Just too heavy.  They are like 12lbs in a 28.0.  I have Solly Falcon CS Pros now, and they have a slightly tighter heel and slightly different toe box, and a lower instep(which for people using footbeds(which should be everybody) they will rest in the liner easier).  They also have a smoother flex(IMO), and are about 2lbs lighter per pair in the same size.

I had Crosses and then switched to the Ilmoros. the cross's ski very similar to the pros. The Ilmoros are much more free flexing, as the top strap really lets the layers slide past each other. I primarily ride park, and the crosses were no where near as good as the ilmoros, and i just didnt like the way they flexed. I usually ride the soft tongue and no forward lean. In deep snow, i have a set of stiff tongues from a set of pros that I toss in, and bump up the forward lean. It does a world of difference. When you start really haulin, there are times when the extra stiffness of the pro would be nice, but they still keep big fat planks in check no problem.

given your situation, id prolly go with the pro. itll still be great in the park, but will be better overall. Either way tho you cant go wrong, both sick boots.

One thing to keep in mind is than instead of switching the tounges, you can just add the stiffening shims to the back of the boots.

do the stiffening shims work by just pressing you further forward in the boot, or do they actually make it a stiffer boots? sorry, i've never actually seen the shims in action, wondering what mechanism makes them work such magic.

So I was looking into getting the Il Moro T ID. I've tried the rampage on and they feel super nice. The only thing I'm afraid of with the Il Moro T is the fact that there is no top buckle and only the binding strap looking thing. Does anyone know if that makes the boot tight enough and won't breake after season of use?

I've riden the krypton series the past 4 or 5 seasons. I started with the pros with booster straps and they were by far my favorite boot. The past two seasons Ive been on il moros and enjoyed them but not nearly as much as the pros. That top strap didnt flex as freely as I wanted and I would end up with welts on my shins where the strap was.

So finally I decided to fix my problem and remove the strap entirely. It comes off pretty easily (3 screws for each) and I replaced it with my old booster straps. This boot is my new favorite set up. The booster strap helps keep the flex of the tongue continuous as you weight up your shins and it feels perfect. I highly suggest doing this if you have il moros

sorry for the double post..

im not sure what the pieces are called but I think you might be confusing the shims for the piece that just adds forward lean to the boot. The shims get put on the inside where you calf is and stop the boot from flexing forward at a certain point. I have mine set up with stiff tongues and the shim at the lowest and the setup is money. soft enough for park riding but still stiff enough to control your ski for all mountain charging.

^and to the post above my first. The top buckle gets the boot plenty tight but i highly suggest removing it completely and adding booster straps. As for the boots lasting a whole season that is one of my favorite parts about the kryptons. Some how, for the past 4 seasons, I end up over flexing the boot and the shell cracks right at the flexing point. Every year they are warranted so I end up with new boots each season without spending a dime. Just have to buy new liners ever couple seasons.

I bought a pair of the gold il moros last season and got about 60 days on them in colorado. I ski all over the mountain and charge pretty hard. I'm also 5'10" 190lbs. I ski park, bumps, couloirs, groomers, drops, trees, etc, etc. I gotta say this boot kills everything. I was in the same boat between pros and il moros. I like the slap ratchet due to its convenience and what I would consider super smooth flex. I thought the boot was relatively light. I also ski the medium (black) tongue. i have think lower legs so I liked the ratchet as someone mentioned you can micro adjust. The higher cuff makes them squeeze my lower leg quite a bit but the liner adjusted itself upon molding and you can see it.

One downside I would say to the il moro, though it hasnt presented any problems yet is the plastic buckles and you won't look as gnar cool in the lift line as the bro bros in arc teryx with the lime green pros.

My background is I've been skiing for 20 years in langes for ten of those. I'm probably an anomoly here though.

Yea, there are different shims for the inside of the heel that match the forward lean. You have three options, not to put it in (soft) lower position (medium) top (stiffest)

im getting the il morro T in a day or two, im really sicked on them, im a little guy so the soft toung is going to be prefect for me, but im guessing your bigger so the kyrpyon is  probthe best.

I bought a pair of the Krypton Pro's last year and they are amazing! I skied about 60 days on them and other than giving me bad shinbang (my fault for back seat landings) they were great.... The onlything i would say is that the il moro with its wierd top buckle thing seems like a good idea until you land back seat and they break which happened to a couple of my friends with their older models. I weigh 205 pounds and am like 5:10. Just what ever you get spend alot of time with your boot fiter the whole process with my boots took about 6 hours between figure out the right boot and then custom fitting them. Good luck!

Krypton Pros were the most comfortable boot I've ever tried on. I like stiffer boots, so I'd go with the Krypton pros. But the Il Moros this year look sooo badass

I have a pair of Proton 8's from 08/09, and I have the Il Moro I.D. arriving at my bootfitters shop on this Tuesday.


I am going to use the IL Moro as my all around boot. I figure 2 tongues, soft or medium I can choose what works best for what I am doing.

I dunno what to tell you, wait till November when I have some snow here so I can tell you what the difference is besides wearing them around the house.

Krypton is more of a charger boot, and I think if you wanna get in to the park and jib in the backcountry / slackcountry you ought to consider the IL Moro.

If the Krypton is like the Proton 8...the Proton 8 was a stiff ass charging boot. Great for carving hard and what not, but absolutely no flex to them.

The next question is....can the Krypton Pro ID's tongue be put in the IL Moro if I wanted to? Say the soft is just useless and I want the medium all the time?

Who knows.... I hope the IL Moro is versatile because I can't dance on rails with the Proton, but I can charge all around the mountain like its no ones business.

Proton 8s have a flex rating of 80, faaaaaar from stiff my friend. The flex of the IL Moros is 80 I believe with the soft tongue. The difference is in the way it flexes that makes it feel soft.

yeah. they are soft. Proton 12s on the other hand, are really stiff.

what may be throwing you off is the depth of flex. kryptons can flex super deep, while the protons have a bumpstop so they dont go that deep.

and yeah, all krypton boot parts are interchangable. i run stiff tongues in them whenever im charging. makes a huge difference.
