Recommend me a good video camera

Hey guys,

i'm looking into filming, it's always interested so i'm looking for a quality video camera, one i can use up on the mountain that has good quality. I'm not looking for too expensive, anyways if somone could help me out.

well it sounds like your new to the filming scene so i am going to suggest what most would, a good consumer camera that produces good quality, the HV30...maybe the HV40 now...not too sure, but they are 600ish and produce really good footage!

've got a question about the hv30/40. Can you adjust at what speed it shoots. like 100 fps, 200fps, or do youjust shootin 60i (which i'm not sure how many fps it is, guessing 60) and slow it down afterwards on yourcomputer?

This year I skied with someone with a Flip video camera. It is HD, extremely portable, and extremely cheap. A great HD camera for a Great price. Perfect for skiing.

Ha, we all wish it was that easy, hv30s shoot 24p,30p and 60i.

no it doesn't have those, you'll just have to shoot in 60i and slow it down later. and 60i is 60 interlaced fields per second, which is 30 frames per second since 2 fields make up one frame. 60i is better for slow motion than 30p which the camera has as well, its smoother.

But i think the price for the hv30 has gone up. I got mine from amazon in december for like $550. Last i checked it was around $900 there. I think it has gone out of production

So is this HV30/40 HD or what? and i dont know i hate any interlaced video esspecially for streaming online, of course you can de-interlace while editing, but for slow motion 30 fps is fine because you can use Pixel Motion in AAE to get an extremely slow but smooth slow mo. Any one know a good cheap HD camera, not like that flip one shown above.

Yes it is a HD cam. If you want a quality cam to really progress and make quality edits then you are not gonna spend less unless you will give up HD. Don't cheap out and get a flip video.

I payed $450 for mine. You will eventually find a deal.

$450!? for an HD thats bomb as hell, i definitely want a nice HD, HD makes everything about a project better.

hopefully i a not mistaken in this statement...

if you dont like interlace/deinterlacing etc then 60i is not for you, you will want 30p which is progressive. but i am not sure if the hv30 is truly progressive or what, but i know with progressive deinterlacing is not required. i hope i didn't just fuck up all my camera knowlege/respect in one statement

The HV20/30 record with a 60i stream, and you need to do a pulldown removal to get your 30p/24p footage.

hahaha no i dont think you fucked anything up i deffently want to get footy in Progressive not Interlaced, so no 60i wouldnt be for me but if it can capture in 30p thats just fine

why all the hate against 60i? It looks exactly the same as 30p once you deinterlace, and it's better for interpolation to make slow motion. It only looks bad if you're too inept to deinterlace...
