Both are solid bindings, the FKS does have a way better track record and way less plastic. The Jester is designed for a fatter ski. With that being said I have FKS bindings on my Caylors (121 under foot) and no plenty of other people with FKS/Pivots on their fat skis with no problems. The guy who said its a little bit of a bitch to get back in in pow is absolutely correct but for every good thing in gear there will always be a compromise. Plus with a pair of FKS you shouldnt be releasing unless you absolutely need to.
meh, Jester releases more consistantly then the STH 16 does. I prefer the Jester over STH 16.
FKS is my favorite binding, with the new wider heel piece they will be even more awesome. Keep in mind they will be more expansive and harder to find then jesters though. Unless you buy used.
The ones that will start showing up at shops in November 2009.
If you don't want to buy a whole new pair of bindings (and have turntables already) you can just buy the rear baseplate assembly and attach your current housing to it. But again this will not be cheap.
if i could have any binding on my wrenegades this year i would pick the new 18 din fks. plus it will last for years and you don't have to fuck with bending brakes. so maybe worth it if you can afford such shit. and i'm sure picking up a discounted set at the end of the season would be next to impossible.
to whoever said jesters are easier to get on in pow over FKS,s are you shitting me?!? jesters suck to put on in soft snow, too much forward pressure, and a bitch to lift them by hand because of it. turntables, you can put them on lying on your back if you need to , just pull the heel up and they snap right on.
and yes, FKS's are the shit. they last forever (sans some little plastic bits which can be easily replaced), and have way more consistant hold than any other clamps. if your worried about pullouts, mount with epoxy instead of woodglue. never had a problem.
