When will freestyle skiing progression stop

Like in the last 10 years, huge progression and in the next 5 we will see heaps more but its gonna stop one day.

Like watching Wallischs Make me Famous video.. You see him progress and yeah yeah, but do you really think that 720 switch ups on an urban rail will ever happen?
I know Triple flips will be coming any day with Chris Turpin and Simon.. But, like fours would be getting too crazy, and after 1800 its gonna look a tiny bit too intense.

I think after a long time, maybe more than 10 years but I think skiing will come alot like skating, I mean, you watch a 10 year old video of skating, (There was a cheapskates NZ one I watched recently) and everything that was cool in that movie was still cool and nothing was new, I guess the people change faster than the tricks.

i can see people still doing park but once they get to a certain level they will do a lot more crazy urban stuff or crazy BC stuff

the only way that progression can every stop is if skiing dies completely. there will always be new things. its hard to think of what could come next but im sure there will be something. as much as im interested in seeing a triple flip i still think that a smooth rodeo 5 or nice switch 7 is hard to match

I definitely don't think that progression will stop, it will just happen in different ways, like using urban terrain differently, for example. And skateboarding has definitely not stopped progressing. Those guys are doing ridiculous shit these days that would have been thought impossible 10 years ago.

Progression isn't necessarily doing bigger spins or more flips, look at all the stuff the guys from Traveling Circus do. I think skiing will never stop progressing because people will keep doing innovative and different things, not just doing a bigger spin.

It will turn into rollerblading, which hasn't stopped progressing people will just stop caring, then skiing will end up in a cirque de solei show. If you think it will take an 1800 or a quad flip to kill the sport......we have differing opinions, the second a guy triple flips skiing just became what rollerblading was in the x games a sideshow of hucking your body even though it will undoubtably be controlled I don't think their is anyone who thinks those Japanese twins doing double flips and triple flips in the vert ramp aren't talented its just too much. at some point a sport progresses so far that few new kids really get into it because they don't feel they'll ever be able to get to that point and become pro thats what kills sports. Skateboarding has progressed, but from joe blows perspective on the outside not much. Skiing is adding flips and spins every year and its very noticeable. hopefully people will start following Favre, Hornbecks,Mahre, Pep, and Pollards cue along with alot of other pro's and start looking at creativity in new tricks not spin to win and that could save the sport for a while, but hell with Global warming the snow is going to run out before our sport does.

Exactly, like laurent favre throwing twisters with grabs into spins. A new take on old tricks, there are so many possible variations of existing tricks on top of ones nobody has thought of yet, and making the hucked tricks and everything overall smoother and more stylish.

Huckfest or steezefest, either way I can't see some kind of progression stopping for a long time.

How many people would be capable of doing 1800+ spins and triple or quad flips. Triples are possible but quad would be ridiculous.

In 2006 people were predicting one footed grinds and octograbs would be the direction skiing would take. Things turned out a little differently.

yeah no one does roller blade grinds anymore? wait a minute.....

Sam I'm slightly more stoked on Turpins triple kang than I would be on a triple cork 1800. both of which would be undeniably sick, but so would breeding narwhales and Horses to make unicorns but is the world ready for such things? or would it be an abomination in the eyes of god? Some things are just better left to fantasy novels.

ha, thats what u think. luckily, progression in skiing is not about only technicality, but style. perfection is a bar, it has a limit. but freeskiing is style-based, and style is a never ending circle. we go through trends. Its all about what is cool at the time, and as everyone gets better, bigger tricks are the trend, but that is not always gunna be true.

what you speak of is aerial skiing, based only on technicality. and that is y it is a dead sport. freeskiing 4life! haha

anyways, OP you are looking at it the wrong way. 720 swaps on urban rails isn't necessarily the progression from 360 swaps. how about a hornbeck nollie to blind swap? what if people were doing b-dog style overcrook to k-fed on a dub kink? what if it was nosebutter 270 on, front swap on the down to flat kink, then you just rode the rest of the rail out? what if chris turpin just shows up and breaks the rail with his mind??

asking when skiing will stop progressing is like asking when music will stop progressing.

I think at some point the "progression" will slow down to a crawl but never stop due to physics. However, skiing culture will continue to "reinvent" itself throughout the entire process where certain tricks or riding styles with become huge.

I think alot of us will move towards the backcountry. Switch pow, huge bc booters, ungroomed parks, 40 foot powder ollies, cliff drops to downrails, jibs across fjords, booters inside of coulaires. Kids will start bringing urban rails into the bc with them and doing flips on/off because the powder gives them confidence.
Thats just what I speculate, a combo of randomization and where I personally would like to see the sport go

people thought that skateboarding stopped progressing to a degree and then the lakai video fully flared came out and everyone was blown away at how different it was.  Anyone thinking that the sport is going to stop progressing is just holding it back.  There's always room to progress.

its not like skiing would be completely dead, it would only be less noticed by gapers. im still going to have just as much fun skiing now as i will later on.

Never gonna stop progressing just change in different ways, skiing has only had ten years to progress and people are still coming up with new styles, more steeze ect.  Also who knows how technology will change in the ski industry who thought rockered skis were possible ten years ago?

Yeah thats true wesley but still no one can say that Skate has REALLY progressed, yeah Full flared was sick but if you look at a 1999 video they are still feebling 10 stairs and tre flipping 12 sets. Nothing really has changed except the players. And In Vert although Shaun white tried 1080's realisitcally nothing has majorly changed, not that many new tricks have been invented in skating, and yeah all the comments are true about moving backcountry and the steeze getting bigger but like someone said, the evolvment will slow to a crawl
